Within the II International Conference on ‘’Archeometallurgy in Europe’’, organized from June 17 – 21, 2007 in Aquileia, Italy, the scientific papers of Mr. Jovan Stojkovic, M. Sc., employed in ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union in Smederevo, have been included in the official Program. The scientific papers titled ‘’Metallurgical concepts in Serbia’’ and ‘’Foundation History of the Old Iron and Steel Works in Serbia’’, the co-author of which is Snezana Devic, D. Sc., of the IMS Institute, Belgrade, are the only scientific papers from Serbia presented at this eminent Conference, representing a significant contribution to Serbian science and history of iron and steel metallurgy in Europe.

The Pension and Disability Insurance Fund of the Republic enabled the approval of insurance period for women which were unemployed in the period from July 1, 1983 till May 31, 1992 and gave birth in the same period. They can exercise their right, namely, they have been approved the time period spent on maternity leave within the length of service although they were unemployed at that time. NSN EUROPEAN DAY OF ACTION 12 JUNE

The EMF and its affiliates to launch a European Day of Action on 12th June for the safeguard of jobs at Nokia Siemens Networks. In the wake of the trade union coordination meeting, which was organized on 25th May 2007 after the European restructuring announced by the management of Nokia Siemens Networks to debate employment prospects in the company, European metalworkers’ unions have decided to organize a European Day of Action on 12th June 2007 to protest at the 9000 jobs that are about to be cut.

EMF ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT AND RE-ELECTS GENERAL SECRETARY AND DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY
EMF CONGRESS - LISBON 6th & 7th JUNE 2007

Lisbon,7.06.2007.
The EMF Congress, attended by some 500 persons opened 6 June at Lisbon’s famous Expo Centre. Participants included nearly 400 EMF delegates from 68 affiliated organizations in 33 European countries and some 75 international and local guests and observers. The first day ended with the election of its main office-holders for the next four years. It elected a new EMF President, Renzo Ambrosetti, President of Unia (CH), who has been an active member of the EMF Executive Committee and Collective Bargaining Policy Committee for many years. He received 97% of the votes cast. It also re-elected Peter Scherrer (IG Metall – D) as EMF General Secretary (with 87% of the votes cast) and Bart Samyn (ABVV Metaal – B) as EMF Deputy General Secretary (with 78% of the votes cast).

NEW 500 MEMBERS JOINED MWBU ’’NEZAVISNOST’’
STRIKE IN ’’MAGNOHROM’’

Kraljevo, May 29, 2007
The agony of over 2200 employees in ’’Magnohrom’’ Kraljevo continues, although employees have been trying for more than 70 days to protect their rights by organizing a strike, under the Law and Purchase & Sales Contract. Almost 10 months have passed since ’’Global Steel’’ became a 100% owner of ’’Magnohrom’’ at tender. Instead of fulfilling the contractual obligations, this company obstructs the obligations and violates Serbian laws.
