Belgrade, June 14, 2007
The meeting of MWBU with R. Ljajic, Minister of Labor and Social Policy, was organized first of all in order to highlight specific views and positions of MWBU, within the sector covered by minister R. Ljajic. The MWBU is well informed about Mr. Ljajic’s previous work and it can certainly be expected that even at this position Mr. Ljajic will make his full contribution to Serbia’s European development.
The MWBU considers initiating of social dialogue on all levels and especially on sector level, as a base for establishing good relations between social partners and creating social stability in Serbia. In this way, one would provide, in addition to economic stability, a political stability as well, conditions fulfilled for attracting direct foreign investments without which Republic of Serbia could not bear the burden of transition in a longer time period, having at this time, as a direct result, a large number of unemployed.
The MWBU, as a long-standing member of IMF and EMF, expressed its readiness to work, together with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and Serbia’s Government, on developing and establishing a high-quality social dialogue on all levels. Minister Ljajic also showed interest in the project of European Metal Workers’ Federation – TAIEX (European Commission), and this is a Seminar for Metal Workers’ Labor Unions from the acceding countries, candidate countries and potential candidates, on social dialogue on European and national level.
The planned International Conference on the automotive industry of Serbia and South-East Europe, which will take place in October, arose minister Ljajic’s interest, and he is willing to take an active part in its planning, being aware of the automotive industry’s importance if one approaches to its development professionally, studiously and on a long-term basis.
The MWBU representatives stated their opinion of the activities of the Socio-Economic Council, Labor Inspection, as well as of the Job Safety Department, frankly and with arguments, and asked minister Ljajic to accept this opinion in a well-intentioned manner, with the view of improving the operation of the Socio-Economic Council, Labor Inspection and Job Safety Department.
It will be a great pleasure for us to welcome minister Ljajic at the meeting of MWBU’s Leading Committee, at which he will present his provisional plans and priorities, to be dealt with by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of Serbia in the following period.
