The Women's Section of ''Nezavisnost'' Metal Workers' Branch Union was founded in April, 2003, and operates in compliance with the Statute of MWBU ''Nezavisnost'' and Operating Procedure of the Women's Section.

The Women's Section works on the recognition and safeguarding specific rights and interests of women, namely, professional, labor, social and union rights.
Objectives:
• Improving skills and stimulating more intense involvement of women in supporting
economic and union interests of women;
• Protection of women's rights at the workplace and preventing women's discrimination
at the workplace;
• Defining the strategy for surpassing equality of the sexes;
• Support to women's legislative initiatives and actions directed towards achieving
equality of the sexes;
• Better access to information relevant for economic strengthening of women for a
timely action;
• Inclusion of women in negotiating teams for concluding collective agreements at all
levels, at parity base;
• Permanent education of members of the Women's Section through seminars, open
discussions and workshops with the view of including women in the privatization
process.
Education:
• The operations of the Section are directed towards education of women through daily
workshops and seminars in accordance with regional division of MWBU
''Nezavisnost''
• Various topics were discussed at the seminars:
- Conventions of International Labor Organization;
- Promotion of the idea of equal opportunities for men and women;
- Exercising women's union rights and improving the quality of their lives;
- Family Law, Safety and Industrial Hygiene Law, Privatization Law, Labor Relations Law, Pension and Disability Insurance Law, Law on Employment and Insurance in case of unemployment;
Activities:
• Report on Women's Section operations;
• Schedule of activities;
• A large number of seminars has been planned with the view of improved education
through programs for union education of members, intended for the inclusion of
women into the structures of commissary office in a company and higher-level
structures of MWBU ''Nezavisnost'';
• Developing activities at the regional level;
• Integrating with non-government organizations at local level and carrying out joint
actions;
• Using the media, publishing bulletins and media promotions;
• Creating a database;
• Printing booklets containing the objectives and basic tasks of Women's Section.

International cooperation:
Numerous Metal Workers' Unions from Europe and the world organized seminars, attended by members of the Women's Section of MWBU ''Nezavisnost'', informed us about their experiences related to privatization, collective negotiating, occupational safety.
Our meetings were supported by the following Unions: CCOO - Spain, GMT - Austria, USWA, United States, CISL - Italy, CGT – France.
