PROMOTION OF SYNDICALISM AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE

Belgrade, May 1, 2007

The “Nezavisnost” United Branch Unions, Youth Section and Women’s Section continue the campaign “You are right”, which began on March 8 this year in Belgrade. Just to remind, the campaign “You are right” is realized in the cities and towns throughout Serbia with the view of promoting the “Nezavisnost” Union and the idea of syndicalism in general, first of all, among the young people. We shall earmark the International Labor Day – May 1st with a new action in Belgrade. On that occasion, a stand will be placed at the beginning of Knez Mihajlova Street, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at which our active members will talk to citizens and distribute an informative material.

SLA SEMINAR IN BELGRADE: “OECD” GUIDELINES FOR MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES

Going on with developing the social dialogue, the Swiss organization for support to manpower throughout the world – SLA, organized a Seminar in Belgrade, the participants of which were trade union representatives, i.e. MWBU “Nezavisnost” and “SSSM” of multinational companies coming from the OECD member countries, then the representatives of Serbian Employers’ Union and Ministry of Labor. The employers’ representatives from the companies took part in the Seminar, showing some companies’ interest in the cooperation at two-party level.

Closing Conference: “Strengthening of the Social Dialogue in South-Eastern Europe through CSR Instruments”
JOINT "EMF" AND "DGB" BILDINGSWERK PROJECT

Istanbul, 24-25.04.2007. The closing conference, held in Istanbul on 24th and 25th April 2007, brought together some 65 metalworkers’ trade union representatives from 14 European countries, employers’ organisations and government representatives. The conference was the culmination of a joint EMF and DGB Bildungswerk project focusing on social dialogue and industrial relations in South-Eastern Europe.

As delegates of the II Electoral Conference of the Youth Section of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, the Youth Section of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ was represented by Jasmina Petrovic, President, and Borisav Radovanovic, coordinator of the Section for Zlatibor region.

The workers of “Magnohrom”, in strike for almost two months, can be satisfied, because the President of the Municipality of Kraljevo, Dr Milos Babic, showed what was meant by being a responsible social partner and authority. – “Concern for the future of “Magnohrom” and almost 2500 workers is a priority of Kraljevo Municipality at this time”, stated Dr Milos Babic, President of the Municipality of Kraljevo, at the meeting attended by members of the Strikers’ Committee of “Magnohrom’’, Dragan Matic, President of MWBU “Nezavisnost”, Pantovic Radoslav, Director of “Magnohrom’’ and a representative of Global Steel, majority owner of “Magnohrom’’.
