THE LATEST NEWS: IN THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF SMEDEREVO
JUSTICE FOR STRIKERS OF ’’MBS’’

The suspicion existing among employees of ’’MBS’’ and citizens of Smederevo that the people of questionable morals and wealth are beyond the law and state has been contested by the award given by the Municipal Court of Smederevo. It has been established by this award that the decision, based on which one of over 300 strikers – members of the MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ was suspended from work, was illegitimate. It has been ordered to AD ’’Milan Blagojevic’’, Smederevo to return the suspended employee to work under threat of coercive execution, namely, to the jobs he was performing before making the controversial decision. The promptness and efficiency showed by the Municipal Court of Smederevo in the case of a labor dispute is encouraging for all of us. The President of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’, Dragan Matic, encouraged by this award, sent a letter to Mr. Zoran Stojkovic, Minister of Justice, in which he stated ...

Serbia is the only country in Europe in which trade unions’ property hasn’t been distributed. The European Confederation of Unions has reminded recently that it will use its influence in the European Union and condition our country’s integration into the EU when this problem is solved. The property will not be distributed until the European officials say clearly that this must be done, thinks Branislav Canak, President of “Nezavisnost” United Branch Union.

PECONI PAYS THE UNION’S “TUITION FEE”

Everything that “Nezavisnost” Metal Workers’ Branch Union promised to its members in AD “Milan Blagojevic”, Smederevo, on legal strike since August 2006, to which Mr. Predrag Rankovic-Peconi gave notices of dismissal that was contrary to the law, will be realized soon in accordance with positive legal provisions. We do not know Mr. Rankovic’s real reasons when he paid out the vacation allowance, at the end of December 2006, only to 250 strikers of “Nezavisnost” Union in “MBS” from approximately 1200 employees of AD “Milan Blagojevic” ...

’’Www.gsmnezavisnost.org.yu’’ is mostly read Union site in Southeast Europe’’, was a slogan under which the website of ’’Nezavisnost’’ Metal Workers’ Branch Union was started ’’bravely and courageously’’ three months ago. A small group of unionists-enthusiasts have decided to take action and go through ’’time and space’’ barriers that have stood until then as a ’’Chinese wall’’ in front of ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union, having in mind that the media in Serbia are being monitored by the authorities to a certain extent. The ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union has never been very popular with the authorities, because of its real and true independence, spirit of freedom and righteousness, so the authorities have never ’’fondled and taken care of it’’.
