VOTERS – ELECTORS: LOOKING FORWARD TO JANUARY 21
REPEATING PROMISES AS A POLITICAL RITUAL
Belgrade, January 22, 2007
I have been writing down intensively the statements of political leaders for several weeks already, which ''begin to fly'' in the pre-election campaign. The promises made by political leaders, compared to those from the previous pre-election campaigns, are very similar, and this is encouraging. All politicians speak constantly about the workers, retired persons, standards, European Union, fight against crime and corruption. It is interesting that when some political leaders say this, the slogans said in the same way – sound different, stated Dragan Matic, President of MWBU ''Nezavisnost''.

INTERVIEW: DR ZORAN STOILJKOVIC
WHY ARE THE ELECTIONS IMPORTANT FOR UBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’?
Belgrade, January 22, 2007
The elections should lead to a more stable authority having full ruling power in a difficult and complex situation faced by Serbia. An additional reason for importance of the elections for ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union is in that we can then see who will be on power and will have a legitimate authority, and the demands we can state associated with considering a three-party system, social dialogue, labor and social legislation and feasible and viable economic development strategy, in order to assume an adequate position and try, through all mechanisms left to us and communications with parties, and even more through influencing work of the parliamentary committees and through social dialogue, but also the public and unions’ and civil offers, to maximize our influence and really be an unavoidable factor on the social and political scene...

COMMENT
A FALSE IMAGE OF “SUCCESSFUL” PRIVATIZATION
Belgrade, January 21, 2007
Serbia is a leader in privatization. The receipts from the privatization brought a budget surplus. The Government’s success is reflected in the privatization results. Rare criticism of the privatization flow in Serbia is silenced promptly, often by a real torrent of accusations of heretics who dared to disrupt the idyll called privatization. That things are not such as the officials present to us, there is a proof that no one in Serbia conducted a serious research on the subject of privatization effects in Serbia. It’s not difficult to guess why?! Is it possible that 2000 companies, already privatized, are worth as a “MOBTEL 063”? An awful plunder of enormous property is in question. The price of “successful” privatization in Serbia shall be paid even by our grandsons and great-grandsons, while the descendants of Tito’s military intelligence generals will become real proprietors of Serbia. Already today some of them behave in this way. Through diligent engagement of personnel in almost all relevant parties, this objective will soon be reached. And then, God help us!
