MUD AND WATER FELL ON MINERS

Today, between 9 and 10 a.m. an accident happened in the Copper Mine Bor. At the moment of accident there were twenty workers in the mine shaft on level 17. The accident happened when the water and mud from level 13 flooded level 17. Six workers were trapped in mud and water. Five workers with minor injuries were pulled out while rescue teams are searching for one more worker.

The amendments to the Law on Citizens’ Income Tax, based on which the amount of Din. 5.000 is exempt from taxation and tax rate on the taxable amount of earnings reduced from 14% to 12%, came into force on January 1, 2007. A majority of employers has already paid out the earnings in this year, therefore, one could have felt the positive effects of such amendments to the Law.

-Based on the Decision of the Council of the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia and Montenegro, which has initiated the disassociation since the referendum in Montenegro, the Trade Union Confederation of Montenegro has taken the possession of 714 sq. meters of business premises in the building of former Confederation of Trade Unions of Yugoslavia in Belgrade, on January 30 this year – confirmed Senior Vice-President of the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia, Ljuba Orbovic, for newspaper “Danas”.

Director Mirko Latinovic’s attempt to prevent a peaceful, democratic union action of the “Nezavisnost” Union of ‘’CIMOS’’ Kikinda Foundry failed! More than 1800 employees took part in the action “For safe work and better life in the factory”, and about one hundred of them have already handed over a filled-in questionnaire. The action surprised not only the management of “CIMOS” Foundry, but also a large number of employees. – “Bravo, that’s the real thing, continue, why are we silent people”, are only some of the words we have heard from workers. Many workers told us about fear, harassment, low wages, lack of basic protective equipment, so that it is certain that there are no “manipulations” behind this action, as formulated by the director Latinovic.

The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Metal Workers’ Branch Union and ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of AD Livnica ‘’CIMOS’’ Kikinda presented their peaceful and democratic action for ‘’Safe work and better life in the factory’’ to journalists and the media in Kikinda. The public had the opportunity to be informed about 10 demands of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union sent to the executive management of ‘’CIMOS’’ Kikinda, after frequent and serious employee injuries in the Foundry.
