THE LATEST NEWS: IN THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF SMEDEREVO
JUSTICE FOR STRIKERS OF ’’MBS’’
Belgrade, January 19, 2007
The suspicion existing among employees of ’’MBS’’ and citizens of Smederevo that the people of questionable morals and wealth are beyond the law and state has been contested by the award given by the Municipal Court of Smederevo. It has been established by this award that the decision, based on which one of over 300 strikers – members of the MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ was suspended from work, was illegitimate. It has been ordered to AD ’’Milan Blagojevic’’, Smederevo to return the suspended employee to work under threat of coercive execution, namely, to the jobs he was performing before making the controversial decision. The promptness and efficiency showed by the Municipal Court of Smederevo in the case of a labor dispute is encouraging for all of us. The President of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’, Dragan Matic, encouraged by this award, sent a letter to Mr. Zoran Stojkovic, Minister of Justice, in which he stated:
’’This is the result of interceding of ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ’’Milan Blagojevic A.D.’’, lasting several months, to prove that there is law and order in Serbia and that all courts are not the sources of corruption and bribe. This award given by the Municipal Court of Smederevo has revived the hope of ’’MBS’’ employees' and of Smederevo citizens that tycoons and criminals are not beyond the law, that there are still courageous people in courts who observe the law and independent judicature. It seems so to us when we read the award hoping that other ’’MBS’’ employees, i.e. over 300 of them, which Mr. Predrag Rankovic Peconi has thrown out on the street in an illicit and vandal way, will get satisfaction from the court in the form of an award with similar content, which our colleagues Dejan Đorđevic and Perica Jovanovic received.
-’’Mr. Minister, we kindly ask that, if there is a way to reward the judge for his good work, you do that, because this doesn't happen often in Serbia. There isn't a better indicator of your pleading for eradication of corruption and crime in Serbia than this, I must say, courageous award given by the judge Aleksandar Jocovic. We do not expect from you, as the Minister of Justice, to feel drawn to us in a certain way. We expect that the courts will, in all the situations similar to this one in which the ''MBS'' employees found themselves, give awards only on the basis of the law, evidence and facts and not by evaluating someone's wealth, political influence and similarly. Also, we expect an efficient, professional and impartial judging by judges, as our people would say ''impartial judging'', it is said in the letter.
Evasion of the law and state will cost Mr. Predrag Rankovic Peconi several million dinars. This is certainly the most efficient and just way to put things in order so that new rich men, as capitalists, accept the fact that Serbia is becoming a state of law and order in which the law applies to everyone, as for the ''MBS'' employee so also for controversial businessman, Predrag Rankovic Peconi.
