THREE MONTHS HAVE PASSED SINCE THE START OF THE WEBSITE OF MWBU ’’NEZAVISNOST’’

A NEW ’’WINDOW’’ INTO THE WORLD

’’Www.gsmnezavisnost.org.yu’’ is mostly read Union site in Southeast Europe’’, was a slogan under which the website of ’’Nezavisnost’’ Metal Workers’ Branch Union was started ’’bravely and courageously’’ three months ago. A small group of unionists-enthusiasts have decided to take action and go through ’’time and space’’ barriers that have stood until then as a ’’Chinese wall’’ in front of ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union, having in mind that the media in Serbia are being monitored by the authorities to a certain extent. The ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union has never been very popular with the authorities, because of its real and true independence, spirit of freedom and righteousness, so the authorities have never ’’fondled and taken care of it’’.

The Serbian version of the site was started on October 9, 2006 and the English version on October 27, 2006. The project task, targets, site architecture, contents, subject matter, photos and site update were carried out by the project team of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ and the visual – programming part was prepared by Belgrade Agency ’’Canatlantic’’.

The aim of the website of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ is to be the Union’s media (Union’s newspaper, radio, television ...), and be intended for a large number of users in the country and abroad, an interactive ’’window’’ through which we can go into ’’the world’’ and a ’’window’’ through which the world comes to visit us, a place where we can see, hear and inform each other, train people, come together as people and professionally, forum for opinion exchange, comments ... Also, the target of the site is that people, visiting the site, should read the news every day, begin to like it, sympathize with Serbian workers’ problems, achievements, grief and sorrow. The MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ with its website, having a ’’human face and soul’’, shows its unionist, organizational, personnel and financial skills and abilities and that it is a modern pro-European Union.

In October 2006 the site was visited by 1508 visitors (48 on the average), and spent time on the site within the time interval expressed in Kbytes: 858.637, in November 2006 it was visited by 1592 visitors (53 on the average), ), spent time on the site within the time interval expressed in Kbytes: 833.586, and in December 2006 there were 1518 visitors (48 on the average), who spent time on the site within the time interval expressed in Kbytes: 2.133.750.

These statistical data show that the number of visitors has stabilized and that the site is being read more and more, and judging by the time spent on our pages, it is being read ’’word by word’’. The site is still ’’new’’, but according to these indicators, as well as praises in written and oral form sent to the addresses of the MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’, it is developing in a positive direction.
