AD MILAN BLAGOJEVIC, SMEDEREVO

PECONI PAYS THE UNION’S “TUITION FEE”

Belgrade, January 17, 2007
Everything that “Nezavisnost” Metal Workers’ Branch Union promised to its members in AD “Milan Blagojevic”, Smederevo, on legal strike since August 2006, to which Mr. Predrag Rankovic-Peconi gave notices of dismissal that was contrary to the law, will be realized soon in accordance with positive legal provisions.

“Nezavisnost” Union proposed several times to the management of AD “Milan Blagojevic”, Smederevo that the problems could be resolved through social dialogue, concerning both the employer and employees. The problems referred to payment of the vacation allowance, hot meal issue, as well as the negotiations for concluding the Collective Agreement with the employer, as the basic demand. The employer turned down the proposal at that time in an insolent and arrogant manner.

We do not know Mr. Rankovic’s real reasons when he paid out the vacation allowance, at the end of December 2006, only to 250 strikers of “Nezavisnost” Union in “MBS” from approximately 1200 employees of AD “Milan Blagojevic”.

We think that Peconi pays “union’s tuition fee” to “Nezavisnost” Union in this way. Unfortunately, although Peconi paid out the vacation allowance only to our members, we are not happy about that.

The vacation allowance had to be paid out to all employees of AD “Milan Blagojevic” and other demands of “Nezavisnost” Union had to be met as well.
