SLA SEMINAR IN BELGRADE: “OECD” GUIDELINES FOR MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES
NEW KNOWLEDGE, ACQUAINTANCES AND CONTACTS
Belgrade, April 30, 2007
Going on with developing the social dialogue, the Swiss organization for support to manpower throughout the world – SLA, organized a Seminar in Belgrade, the participants of which were trade union representatives, i.e. MWBU “Nezavisnost” and “SSSM” of multinational companies coming from the OECD member countries, then the representatives of Serbian Employers’ Union and Ministry of Labor. The employers’ representatives from the companies took part in the Seminar, showing some companies’ interest in the cooperation at two-party level.
Speaking about former activities of the SLA and the results achieved in Serbia, Cedanka Andric stressed the results achieved in Serbia so far by the SLA. The major topics of the Seminar were the international framework agreements – IFA, which the IMF signed with multinational companies, on respecting employees’ labor and social rights which have to be applied as in the companies - signatories of the IFA, so also in the companies being direct or indirect manufacturers or suppliers for a company signatory of the IFA.
In this way, the number of employees, having protection and rights resulting from the IFA, is increasing. Using the IFA, enviable results have been attained in Serbia regarding the IFA application.
Special rights apply for the companies coming from the OECD member countries, and Jean Claude Prance of STUC/ILO spoke about this to the participants of the Seminar, who also presented trade union’s guide for OECD guidelines on the second day of the Seminar. The speaker at the Seminar and participant in the discussions was Anne Marie Mureau of the IMF, whose topics – IFA and Informing about the IMF, were followed attentively by participants in the Seminar.
A lot of discussions and questions posed by all the participants, as well as the diversities showed by the participants during the Seminar, tell us that there is a significant difference in viewpoints, as in unions, so also with employers’ representatives and those from the Ministry of Labor. Much new knowledge, necessary for all those taking part in three-party and two-party activities in Serbia, new acquaintances and contacts made, are only a part of the issues discussed at the Seminar and that accomplished through this Seminar. Gratitude has been expressed to SLA for organization and financial support, and the SLA’s commitment to developing social dialogue in Serbia was especially emphasized.
We would like to remind that the OECD member states are as follows: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, Holland, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Great Britain, U.S.A.
