The endeavors of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ to improve safety and health conditions in iron and steel industry in order to reach an enviable level, were confirmed in Kragujevac, being the ‘’heart’’ of metal and car industry. After Belgrade and Smederevo, active members of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, primarily those dealing with safety and industrial hygiene, had the opportunity to be informed about the regulations that took effect in 2005, and have been applied in iron and steel industry.

Hundreds of workers of ‘’Gorenje’’ from Valjevo accepted membership admission forms and leaflets of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ with a smile, as the first step in becoming members of our Union. Smiling faces of young workers of ‘’Gorenje’’ are a confirmation that ‘’Gorenje’’ needs trade unions. More than 300 workers were handed in admission forms and we expect that many of them would sign them. Also, we can expect registering of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of Gorenje soon.

It didn’t take much time for the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of IPM ‘’Zlatara’’ – Majdanpek to accept the Report of operations and finance, submitted by the president Slavica Djordjevic. There have been many challenges in trade union’s operations and the ultimate result and reward would be a successful privatization and satisfied workers. The president of the Youth Section of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Jasmina Petrovic held a meeting with active members of the Youth Section from Majdanpek and coordinator of the Section for Bor-Zajecar Region, Slavisa Ilic, at which those present were informed about previous activities performed by the Section, as well as about the activities to be carried out in the following period. The president of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union, Dragan Matic presented the current situation, regarding relations with individuals of the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leadership, to members of the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zlatara’’. The MWBU priorities until the Congress have been indicated, and they are, first of all, permanent services rendered to our members and fulfillment of undertaken obligations until the Congress.

A DIZZLING INCREASE OF MONTHLY VISITS TO THE WEB SITE OF MWBU IN MARCH

A NEW RECORD: FROM 6.821 TO 16.178 VISITS

In March 2008 the web site of MWBU broke the last record of monthly visits of January 2008, which was 6.821 IP addresses, by surpassing the visits in March by 10.000 IP addresses (i.e. an increase of +137%). In this way, the web site of MWBU fully justifies the slogans it started with a year and a half ago, such as: ’’the mostly read unionist site in South-East Europe’’ and ’’the site that informs and gives an incentive for unionist action, for better life at work, in the family and society.’’ The increase of site visits from one month to another is not accidental but it is the result of thoughtful, skilled and strenuous work of a four-member team of our colleagues being devoted to this sophisticated, informative, educational and marketing unionist medium every day.

The MWBU, supported by Swiss Labor Assistance organization (SLA), presented the study, in Banja Vrdnik, titled ’’Situation and prospects of Serbian Metal Industry - guidelines for trade union activities’’, the author of which is prof. D. Sofija Adžic. This study was elaborated ten years after a similar project that MWBU had, the title of which was ’’Metal Industry for XXI century.’’ This study was necessary in order to perceive the situation and future of Serbian Metal Industry in a comprehensive way and support the approach of MWBU to the negotiations with the Government and employers concerning the follow-up of the restructuring process and intensifying the privatization process. Besides the author of the presentation, prof. D. Sofija Adžic, members of the MWBU Presidency and Leadership of the AMWTUS also took part.

COMMON STAND OF THE MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ LEADING COMMITTEE CONFIRMED

Special Session of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee enabled that common stand of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee on ‘’six resolutions’’ could be confirmed to the members of the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Presidency, which the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee rejected and brought about the convening of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee. The members of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee stated their opinion frankly supported with arguments, and a conclusion could be drawn that it would be really difficult for UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee to explain the reasons and motives that led to non-acceptance of resolutions of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. A conclusion that resulted in making a decision by the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee reflected the seriousness of the members of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee and present members of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Presidency.
