AN OPPORTUNITY FOR MANUFACTURERS OF AGRICULTURAL MACHINES

By the follow-up of the activities, oriented towards successful privatization of the companies-manufacturers of agricultural machines (IMT, IMR) and their subcontractors, the MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ conducted talks with Executive Managements of the mentioned companies. By presenting the idea and motives of the project, the President of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’, Negoslav Jovanovic stated the fact, in the talks with the General Director of Motor Industry – Rakovica, Zoran Radosavljevic, that over 6000 workers could earn their pays in the present companies if the model of ’’Zastava’’ privatization and experience from Kragujevac would be applied to Belgrade Metal Industry Complex too.

THE CLOSING SESSION OF THE MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ LEADING COMMITTEE WAS HELD BEFORE THE VI CONGRESS OF MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’

The XII Ordinary Session of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Leading Committee (L.C.) was the last Session which was held before the VI Congress of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. After having adopted the Minutes, the L.C. members reviewed the letter of the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Statutory Committee (S.C.) by which the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ L.C. and MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Statutory Committee were informed that the UBU Statutory Committee, at the Session held on April 15 2008 and at Branislav Canak’s request, considered the statutory basis of membership of Azir Hadzifejzovic, President of MWBU S.C., and based on the opinion that, related to this issue, Article 49, para.6. of the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Statute was violated. The MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ L.C. addressed the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ S.C., namely, Vice-President Zoran Jovanovic, who signed this request, and B. Canak, to justify what was violated and by what the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ L.C. would be guided in order to appoint a new member in the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Statutory Committee.
The MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Statutory Committee notified the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ L.C. that it reached the following Decisions at its Session held on September 9 2008:

The Socio-Economic Council of the Republic of Serbia protected the pay-out of minimum wage
MINIMUM WAGE IS APPLICABLE AS FROM JULY

Newly agreed minimum pay, which now amounts to 13.572 RSD in net amount on monthly level, shall be applied for the period July-December 2008. In this way, the dilemma concerning the existence of a ’’vacuum’’ from the expiration of the term for payment of previous minimum wage until September Session of the SEC of the Rep. of Serbia, has been resolved. Employers are obliged to pay out the determined minimum wage to employees retroactively. The amount of minimum wage is increased according to all the bases for wage increase (night work, overtime work, work on holidays ...) based on dead labor (past labor), as well as for the agreed amount of the hot meal and vacation allowance.

At the Session of the Coordinating Committee of the MWBU Youth Section, held on September 8 2008, young people considered the efficacy of the actions carried out so far, as well as the plan of future activities. Two important events have to be mentioned: Assembly of the MWBU Youth Section and VI Congress of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. The representatives of the Youth Section will take an active part in the work of the VI Congress of MWBU as delegates, delegated from their regions, and as guests of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ which will participate in the Congress organization viewed from operative aspect.

MINIMUM PAY WITH DELAY

The SEC Session of the Republic of Serbia was expected impatiently by employees in Serbia, and as the ultimate result of the session, Serbian employees got minimum hourly wage with a 2-month delay, which now amounts to 78 RSD and which is by 8% higher than the previous one. Based on this minimum hourly wage, the amount of this wage is now 13.572 RSD.

REPORTS SUBMITTED – PREPARATIONS FOR THE IMF CONGRESS

The Sub-regional Meeting for South-East Europe, organized by the IMF, gathered a significant number of representatives of Metal Workers’ Trade Unions, IMF members, and major topic were the reports of the IMF Executive Committee Meetings, held in November 2007 and May 2008, and the campaign against uncertain jobs. The report and resolutions from these meetings were read by colleague Mare Anceva, member of the IMF Executive Committee from Macedonia. Ms. Anne Marie Mureau of the IMF informed the gathered unionists of the advancement of the project on job safety and industrial hygiene, as well as of the results achieved. The participants devoted a considerable attention to the subject of the campaign against uncertain jobs, which was conducted by the IMF, by focusing on the Global Action Day which will take place on October 7 2008, and member-countries submitted a report on the activities they plan to carry out by organizing this action in their countries.
