REPORTS SUBMITTED – PREPARATIONS FOR THE IMF CONGRESS
Skoplje, September 16 2008
The Sub-regional Meeting for South-East Europe, organized by the IMF, gathered a significant number of representatives of Metal Workers’ Trade Unions, IMF members, and major topic were the reports of the IMF Executive Committee Meetings, held in November 2007 and May 2008, and the campaign against uncertain jobs. The report and resolutions from these meetings were read by colleague Mare Anceva, member of the IMF Executive Committee from Macedonia. Ms. Anne Marie Mureau of the IMF informed the gathered unionists of the advancement of the project on job safety and industrial hygiene, as well as of the results achieved. The participants devoted a considerable attention to the subject of the campaign against uncertain jobs, which was conducted by the IMF, by focusing on the Global Action Day which will take place on October 7 2008, and member-countries submitted a report on the activities they plan to carry out by organizing this action in their countries.
Discussing the preparations for the IMF Congress, which will take place in Sweden, Geteborg, in the period from May 24-27 2009, all those present were informed of the composition of the Committee for Rules and Regulations and the Action Plan Committee. Assistant of the IMF Secretary General, Fernando Lopez, gave a presentation on the subject of “trade union strengthening and collective bargaining” and stressed that collective bargaining and trade union strengthening was a permanent trade union activity. This subject matter is especially complicated in the area of South-East Europe, because working conditions, pays, working hours, are often different, as well as the rights regarding social security.
