SUMMER SCHOOL “WEEK OF SOCIAL-DEMOCRACY”

GATHERING OF YOUNG PEOPLE FROM THE “WEST BALKANS”

The traditional, second summer school “Week of Social-Democracy”, was organized from July 6 – 12, 2007 in “Dunav” Camp, Zemun, under the auspices of “Friedrich Ebert” and “Jean Jaures” Foundations. This event gathered about 80 young people from the territory of “West Balkans” – from the countries of former Yugoslavia and Albania, but also from the EU countries – Germany, Czech Republic, France, Holland, Ireland… The participants in the “Camp” were young people from political parties of socio-political orientation, NVO and trade union representatives. Ms. Danica Tomasevic took part in the “Camp” as the Youth representative of UBU and MWBU “Nezavisnost”.

STIMULATION SEVERANCE PAYS AND POSSIBILITY OF SELF-EMPLOYMENT

The meeting of the Minister of Economy and Regional Development of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Mladjan Dinkic, with the representatives of trade union organizations of “Zastava vozila” Group, which was held on July 20, 2007 in Belgrade, aimed at advancing the proposal of measures for deciding on the status of employees of “Zastava employment and training” d.o.o. Kragujevac (ZET). It is known that the agreement between Serbian Government, “Zastava” Management and all trade union organizations of “Zastava” Group expires on August 31, 2007 and that the proposal of new measures means final abolishing of ZET. Minister Dinkic stated the way he planned to solve the problem of 4500 employees of ZET, and he made the proposal of stimulation severance pays for those employees.

THE WEBSITE OF MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ HAD THE LARGEST NUMBER OF VISITORS IN JULY

NEW RECORD – 4.000 VISITORS

The website www.gsmnezavisnost.org.yu is still the mostly read unionist site in Southeast Europe. A new record was set in monthly visits to the MWBU “Nezavisnost” site in July 2007, and it is now 4.064 visitors, or 135 visitors per month. Compared to previous best result recorded last month, this is an increase by 42,5%. The website of MWBU “Nezavisnost” is visited by approx. 15% visitors from Serbia, while others are from abroad. A creative team, working on the site, prepares new useful and interesting subjects, and the optimism that such an increase trend will be continued, is justified.

After a longer time period it was a real pleasure to hear the Report on the activities performed in the “Nezavisnost” Branch Union of TLF Industry in the period from February till July 2007. The largest number of trustee offices of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of TLF Industry, which appealed for assistance concerning the solving of problems existing in companies, and with the professional assistance they have been provided, it was possible to solve the problems efficiently. The greatest part of the Report was dedicated to individual companies such as Diork, Iris, Inteks, Ljubisa Miodragovic, Premiks, 1. maj Standard and many other, and future activities will show that through joint activities of both textile and metal industry workers, as well as UBU “Nezavisnost”, we can improve the work of trustee offices at company levels and thereby facilitate their positions.

A long expected Session of the Socio-Economic Council was held on July 9, 2007 with the participation of the new Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Rasim Ljajic. The verification of the term of office of new Council members and election of Branislav Canak, President of UBU “Nezavisnost”, as the SEC Chairman, preceded the presenting of the proposal of minimum pay in the period July – December 2007.

Pursuant to Article 112., para.3. of the Labor Law (“Official Gazette of the RS”, nos. 24/05 and 61/05), referring to determining of minimum pay for the period July – December 2007, taking into consideration all the parameters defined in it (living costs, average pay movements in the Rep. of Serbia, existential and social needs of an employee and of his family, unemployment rate, employment trends in the labor market and general economic development level of the Rep. of Serbia), after previous consultation of social partners, the Socio-Economic Council reached a Decision at the Session held on July 9, 2007 that the minimum pay should be determined in the following amount:
