THE ORGANIZING SCHOOL OF MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ TRAINED THE FIRST GENERATION OF ACTIVE UNION MEMBERS
WITH UNIONIST KNOWLEDGE TO MEMBERSHIP

Long lasting sincere interceding of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ in dealing with education of our members actively and on a long-term basis, has lasted for 10 years already. On this path we have a strong and lasting support of FES Foundation, as well as of Solidarity Center AFL CIO. The representative of AFL CIO, colleague Laurie Clemens, as an outstanding unionist and instructor for distinguished active members of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, organized a 3-day seminar on the subject of ‘’Unionist organizing and recruiting’’. Union organizing and approach to small and medium-size enterprises was especially stressed.

The town Bautzen in the German province of Saxony, celebrating 1000 years of its existence, was the host of trade union representatives, scientists, eminent persons of the most important political and social institutions from several EU states, and guests of this impressive international meeting were the representatives of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost”, D. Matic and A. Todic as well.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Conference on ''Corporate Social Responsibility'' – Challenges and Trends'', organized by ''Economist Media Group'' which took place on September 27 2007 in "Hayatt Regency" Hotel in Belgrade, was attended by high officials of the Ministry of Labor and Ministry of the Economy of Serbian Government, Radovan Jelasic, governor of the National Bank of Serbia, General Directors of the most eminent companies, non-government organizations, PR and marketing agencies in Serbia, as well as editors of the most significant media. - ''Social responsibility of Serbian companies is reflected first of all in their ethical conduct towards employees, and only then in donations and sponsorships in local and global community. It is only possible to conduct a social dialogue with socially responsible companies. While we have good experience with a majority of multi-national companies, such as U.S. Steel, on the other hand, we have the biggest problems with Serbian ''proprietors'', said Mr. Jovan Stojkovic in the discussion, communicating the positions of the Metal Workers Branch Union ''Nezavisnost''.

The third trade union school for active members of the Youth Section of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and the Autonomous Trade Union was organized in the period from September 21 – 25, 2007, supported by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The topic of this year’s seminar was ‘’Skills of Collective Negotiating.’’

SUB-REGIONAL CONFERENCE OF METAL WORKERS FROM SOUTH-EAST EUROPE
EMPLOYMENT AND UNCERTAIN JOBS

The Sub-Regional Conference of trade unions from South-East Europe, IMF members, took place in Sarajevo on 13 and 14 September 2007 and was organized by the IMF. The Conference was attended by over 40 representatives from 8 countries from the Region, with IMF representatives, coordinator, Anne Marie Moreau and Rob Johnston. The intention and major task of the participants was directed to the subject of job safety and industrial hygiene in the Region.

THE SESSION OF UBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ PRESIDENCY HELD AFTER A SERIES OF ADJOURNMENTS
NOTHING NEW IN UBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’

The decisions and previous resolutions of the UBU Presidency were partly carried out. The UBU leadership was unable to submit a work report to the members of the UBU Presidency for the sectors which for they were responsible. For these reasons it is very difficult to give an opinion of the UBU leadership work, because behind collective responsibility there was insufficient performance of some UBU leadership members.
