MEETING OF MWBU COORDINATING COMMITTEE OF SUMADIJA-POMORAVLJE REGION
PREPARATIONS FOR PRIVATIZATION OF ‘’ZASTAVA’’

The VIII Session of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ for Sumadija-Pomoravlje Region was held in Kragujevac. A meeting was held before the Session which was attended by Vice-President of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Nebojsa Savic, President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Dragan Matic, and representatives of companies from Sumadija-Pomoravlje Region, as well as the President of ‘’Zastava’’ Forging Shop, Ivan Terzic. All those present were addressed by the Management of ‘’Zastava Group’’, President of the Managing Board, Dragan Srejovic, and deputy General Director of ‘’Zastava automobili’’, Slavoljub Đorđevic. They presented the current situation in ‘’Zastava Group’’, preparations for the tender, as well as current activities performed in ‘’Zastava’’.

-‘’The buyer of ‘’Zastava’’ must be a renowned company, which, besides the cost price, has to provide significant funds for investment, because this is necessary for ‘’Zastava’’, and at the same time this tells about the seriousness of the buyer to continue car production. Trade unions have to devote much attention to work-out of the Social Program, as well as to the activities oriented towards government institutions, in order that ‘’Zastava’’ would be well prepared for the tender’’, stressed the President of ‘’Zastava’’ Managing Board, D. Srejovic.

As representative trade unions on the Republic level, MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ will take care that privatization of ‘’Zastava’’ will be successful and the process within legal framework and in the interest of employees. Social dialogue level in ‘’Zastava’’ is reflected in joint actions of the management and trade union and is encouraging that privatization will be successful, to the benefit of not only workers of ‘’Zastava’’ and Kragujevac but the whole Serbia, said the Vice-President of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Nebojsa Savic.

Carrying on with the items of the agenda of VIII Session of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ for Sumadija-Pomoravlje Region, the participants discussed openly the problems and results, stressing that developing and expanding trade union network and union strengthening had to be permanent guidance in the present and future work.

New ideas and assignments have to be realized and carried out and trustee offices in companies must be responsible for those activities. The process of education, mutual contacts and exchange of experience confirm that trade union is a ‘’live thing’’ which requires constant maintaining and learning.

All those present were also addressed by the President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Dragan Matic, with his comments on regional activities and information on the current events in MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. The Coordinating Committee elected new coordinator of the Women’s Section for Sumadija-Pomoravlje Region, namely, Gordana Damjanovic of ‘’Zastava automobili’’.
