SEMINAR: ”COOPERATIVE MODEL OF DOING BUSINESS AND POSSIBILITIES OF EMPLOYMENT IN THE CONDITIONS OF TRANSITION”

COOPERATIVE MOVEMENT AS A CHANCE

Nis, November 27 2007
A one-day educational seminar was held on November 12, 2007 in the conference room of the Machine Industry building in Nis, under the sponsorship of Women’s Section of UBU “Nezavisnost” and with the financial support of the FES Foundation with Branch Office in Belgrade.

The main topic was the cooperative model of doing business and possibilities of employment in the conditions of transition. Thirty active unionists from the south of Serbia took part in this seminar, and Dr Zaklina Stojanovic, docent of the School of Economics in Belgrade, had an interesting presentation, where she emphasized that cooperative movement was the one for the future. Cooperatives can be found today throughout Europe, America, Asia and Africa. Key emphasis was placed on the development of cooperative movement in Serbia. To that end poverty would be diminished and employment stimulated. Popularization of cooperative movement in this country can be expected only after adopting the Cooperatives Law. Women’s entrepreneurship is an important developmental potential of cooperative movement.

Thereby the transition consequences would be lessened and many people with different professions would be employed. Integrated in new cooperatives in this way, the members have an improved access to information important for business operations (credits, more successful entering the market and enhancing competitiveness).
