SEVERAL HUNDRED WORKERS, WORKING IN SUBTERRANEAN FACILITIES, REMAINED WITHOUT REDUCED SERVICE YEARS FOR RETIREMENT

THAT’S REALLY INJUSTICE

Belgrade, November 19 2007
The MWBU “Nezavisnost”, due to the injustice for several hundred workers of the specific-purpose production of “Prvi partizan” Uzice, encouraged our Union to initiate an action for granting reduced service years for retirement on retroactive basis to all workers who worked in subterranean facilities, mostly in diverted production, for the period from 1980 – 1997.

Namely, it was prescribed by statutory regulations of 1997 that reduced service years for retirement were to be granted to employees working in underground facilities. The work in subterranean facilities dates way back from 1980 at least in “Prvi partizan”, therefore, it is illogical that reduced service years for retirement should be granted from 1997 although workers worked in such facilities since 1980. In some companies the situation is much worse, because workers used to work in such facilities before 1980. For those reasons, the Management and Board of Directors of “Prvi partizan” reached the necessary decisions in order to remedy this injustice.

The president of MWBU “Nezavisnost”, Dragan Matic, sent a letter to the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Rasim Ljajic, in which he requested that representatives of “Prvi partizan” and Trade Union should be received by the Management and that they justified their demands, as well as possible solutions that could be useful not only to workers, but the State too. “We expect that Minister Ljajic will show understanding for the demand of employees working in subterranean facilities and that there is a way to remedy this injustice”, it is said in the letter sent to Minister Ljajic, signed by MWBU “Nezavisnost”.
