THE UBU “NEZAVISNOST” ACTION IN SUBOTICA
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECENT WORK – FOR PROPER LIFE

The action called “YOU HAVE THE RIGHT“ took place in Subotica on October 24, 2007, organized by UBU “Nezavisnost”, Women’s and Youth Section. In view of the season, the weather in Subotica was nice and pleasant, which suited our union. The sun was shining as in spring, so citizens went out for a walk on the promenade in Subotica. Having noticed a stand, marked with signs of “Nezavisnost” Union, equipped with loudspeakers from which one could hear employees’ rights in line with poll topics, the citizens walked up to the stand with curiosity and waited, several times, for a free poll-taker to come and hand in questionnaires to them.
The citizens of Subotica had the opportunity to ask questions answered by professional regional trustees of branch unions, Vice-President of UBU, Gordana Aleksic, President of Women’s Section of UBU “Nezavisnost”, Dobrila Ilicic, regional trustee of UBU “Nezavisnost”, Caba Mark.
The action was very successful and the questionnaire and promotional material in Hungarian language also contributed to the success. Active members of MWBU “Nezavisnost” contributed by their large number and activism to the success of this action and nominated Subotica the city that accepted the ideas of “Nezavisnost” Union.
The campaign called “You have the right” is well-known to the public and already gives planned results. The organizers hope they will continue such or similar actions in 2008 with the view of informing citizens about their labor legislation and promotion of ideas of UBU “Nezavisnost.”
