STIMULATING EMPLOYMENT

The Press Conference, held on October 24, 2007 in the City Assembly of Belgrade, on the topic: “Promotion of the project for stimulating employment through grant of funds on the territory of Belgrade’’, organized by the Secretariat for Economy of the City Assembly, gathered all those included in this project. The Conference was opened by Stanija Visekruna of the Secretariat for Economy and the opening address was given by the acting mayor of Belgrade, Mr. Alimpic. Mr. Jasenko Lazovic, President of the Employment Council, and Mr. Mazinjanin, opened further discussion, where all the participants in this project introduced themselves individually, presenting their projects and explaining their purpose and importance in an increase of employment of young people, women and other unemployed persons on the territory of Belgrade.

This is the project of social partnership development with the view of starting up surplus manufacturing capacities, equipment and manpower hiring. Former practice of giving support to small and medium-size companies in Serbia was restricted to simplification of their founding process and securing tax relief in the initial period of operation. Vocational training was restricted to publishing certain publications and partial organizing of a minor number of courses, and no one thought about the possibility of approving utilization of surplus manufacturing capacities to those having a desire and able to be engaged in business by themselves. In this way, the potential of companies and their employees has been ignored, and the consequences are modest systematic results achieved in the area of economy. Convinced that just enhancing surplus manufacturing and human potentials through social partnership development should be a proper way to efficient solving of transition problems, the UBU “Nezavisnost” proposed the implementation of this project.
