THE PRESIDENT OF MWBU ''NEZAVISNOST'', DRAGAN MATIC, VISITED SEVERNA BACKA REGION
BACKA BURDENED WITH UNIONIST PROBLEMS
Subotica, September 14 2007
A predominant problem in trade unions within the companies, visited by the MWBU President, is the non-existence of social dialogue and good will to resolve the economic problems by joint efforts of employers and trade unions. In all three visited companies, namely, ’’Premix’’, ’’Sigma’’ and ’’Bratstvo’’ there has been unreadiness and clumsyness in solving the accumulated problems followed by the observance of statutory regulations.
The unionists and employers ignorance resulted, as illustrated by words, in ’’trenches dug’’ at both sides, from which ’’shots can be heard’’ from time to time. There is a somewhat better situation in ’’Bratstvo’’ in which our Union almost restarted operations and where we are now already very close to representativeness, in a company having over 380 employees, as director Tesanovic told us.
We expect an improvement of business relations in ’’Bratstvo’’, regular payment of earnings, and first of all, that employee rights, provided for by the C.A. and the Law, are to be respected. The director of ''Bratstvo'' assumed a similar position and stressed that if some more serious disturbances would not occur, ''Bratstvo'' could expect a consolidation of overall business situation in November.
The situation in ''Sigma'' is a bit different and there are presently more than 70 workers employed in the company, and the ''Nezavisnost'' Union is in such a situation that a majority of its members have taken the opportunity given by the Social Program and left the company. The company itself is a part of ''Galeb Group'' in which our Union have had its trade unions for a long time and a positive experience with the owner of this Group, Mr. Veselinovic. There is no reason that we don't initiate developing a high-quality, long-term partner relations with the management, as a prerequisite of successful ''Sigma'' operations and progress.
There is certain positive advancement concerning women colleagues of ''Premix'' thanks to our Union's activity. There is still an expressed discontent present in the company, because of the regulations and duration of working hours, but we hope and will work on eliminating unclearness and absence of rules and regulations and in that sense we plan to talk individually to all three owners of ’’Premix’’.
Summarizing the entire situation in Subotica, one can draw a conclusion that the union leadership needs additional training, and it will be carried out by the end of the year at the latest.
