THE ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ TRADE UNION OF ‘’TIR’’ SUPPORTS THE GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE THE PRIVATIZATION OF ‘’RTB’’ BOR
AN OPEN LETTER SENT TO MINISTER DINKIC
Bor, June 25, 2007. The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Trade Union of ‘’TIR’’ appreciates the Government’s position that the privatization of ‘’RTB’’ Bor is to be continued. The obsolete technology and equipment are in an extremely bad condition and environmental conditions in Bor and the surrounding villages were almost unbearable in the last few days, and those are the main reasons why one shouldn’t drag out the privatization of ‘’RTB’’ Bor for investments. The terms for signing the Purchase and Sales Contract with the future bidder within the investment, social and environmental section must not be more disadvantageous for workers of ‘’RTB’’ than the terms requested and accepted by the highest bidder, Rumanian ‘’Cuprum’’, with which Serbian Privatization Agency terminated the Purchase and Sales Contract, because it didn’t receive any payment guarantees even in the additional term, it has been said in the demands of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’TIR’’, forwarded to the Minister for Economy and Regional Development, Mladjan Dinkic and acting directors M. Conic and B. Lekovski.
Due to newly created situation associated with ‘’RTB’’ privatization, we think that the money which the ‘’RTB’’ Management intends to use for the purchase of mining equipment should be reallocated to an increase of living standard of ‘’RTB’s’’ workers, which went down to the lowest level in the last decade, almost the lowest since ‘’RTB’’ existence, i.e. when ‘’RTB’s’’ worker could neither obtain a loan nor be an endorser. We support this with the fact that the bidder, which ranked second, stated openly that he would invest as much funds as necessary. For this reason we demand from ‘’RTB’’ Management to pay out jubilee awards, prior to privatization, for 10, 20, 30 and 40 years of devoted work in extremely bad and contaminated working and living conditions in which many workers neither lived up to retirement nor received jubilee awards, because they died.
Bearing in mind that ‘’RTB’’ wrote off debts to many debtors, they should at least fulfill the jubilee award payment obligation, resulting from TIR’s Collective Agreement, which was accepted in the privatization process of ‘’RTB’’ on the whole.
