ACTIVITIES OF WOMEN’S SECTION OF ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ TRADE UNION OF IMK
‘’14. OKTOBAR’’ A.D.

IN THE FOCUS – PREVENTION AND HEALTH PROTECTION

The Women’s Section of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Trade Union of IMK ‘’14. oktobar’’ A.D. was formed on March 28, 2003, and since then it has participated actively in all actions organized by the Commissary Committee of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Trade Union in this company. From a total number of union members, 165 are women, namely, approx. 34%. In the Commissary Committee, from a total of 19 members, 4 are women, i.e. 21%, and this tells us about still insufficient percentage of women in trade union bodies.

In addition to this, the Women’s Section organizes and takes independent actions, that have already become traditional, such as giving presents to children of trade union members for Serbian New Year, celebration of March 8, International Women’s Day, as well as organizing recreation – aerobic for all women members.

This year, the activities shall be focused on the prevention and health protection of employees. An action for performing ophthalmologic examinations (sight and diopter checkup) has been organized for all trade union members and their family members, in cooperation with the Commissary Committee. There is a possibility of buying glasses at reduced prices and in four monthly installments.

Also, an action has been organized for gratis, preventive gynecological and oncology checkups for all factory workers (women), in cooperation with Public Health Center – Krusevac. The data tell us that a large number of women responded to this action, i.e. over 60%. Besides these activities, the Women’s Section of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Trade Union of IMK ‘’14. Oktobar’’ A.D. has a good cooperation with organizations dealing with issues of women’s rights, such as Women’s Association ‘’Pescanik’’ – Krusevac, and the same is reflected in the participation in the seminars and open speeches, organized by the mentioned Association.
