THE ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ UNION – ‘’ZASTAVA AUTOMOBILI’’ KRAGUJEVAC
DEMANDS FORWARDED TO SERBIAN GOVERNMENT

Kragujevac, March 28, 2007
‘’The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’ has faced problems, arising constantly and having an adverse effect on the factory’s existence in the near future. The blackmails, ultimatums and threats are still present. They threaten us that, if we are not obedient, we won’t get subsidies’’, it has been said in the announcement of Nenad Matic, President of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’ Kragujevac.

By the end of 2001, when 6000 workers had left the factory, they made a ‘’firm’’ promise that a strategic partner would come. Only ‘’firm’’ remained from this promise. This became clear when making lists for new reorganization, and no one has been informed of that. This meant another turn of dismissals, another turn of surplus manpower, which will certainly not be the last.

As a trade union, it is our opinion that the ultimate objective of all of this is driving the factory into bankruptcy with the least number of employees as possible, because it is much easier then to “ruin’’ the factory.

They are deceiving us with endless negotiations on the structure of the Government, and no one sees and mentions the economic problems. It seems that we are here because of them and not they because of us. We’ve really had enough. It’s high time for us to start solving problems.

WHAT DO WE DEMAND FROM SERBIAN GOVERNMENT:

1.A clear opinion in connection with Serbian Automotive Industry, as well as its development strategy,
2.Finding a strategic partner for the Car Factory,
3.Conversion of the factory’s debt to the State, in order that we become a state company and in this way avoid bankruptcy,
4.Maintaining the current production at appropriate level until the privatization occurs,
5.Providing regular subsidies without extortion and threatening with new dismissals and lists of redundancies by the Government,
6.Extending the validity of the Agreement with ZZO, as well as serious considering of employees’ status.

We expect from those competent to appear and start solving these problems.

In the second announcement, the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’ informed the workers and the public that a Collective Agreement was signed in the Factory ‘’Zastava automobili a.d.’’. Although the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union wasn’t present during signing of the mentioned Agreement, the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’ took part in preparing the same in cooperation with the trade union organization ZA a.d. and Trade Union of Serbian Automotive Industry.

-‘’Workers of ‘’Zastava’’, we are on a turning point when it depends only on us and our unity whether we are going to provide further existence of all of us and our families’’, it has been said at the end of the announcement of Nenad Matic, President of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’.
