OFFICIAL DENIAL REGARDING THE STATEMENT OF DRAGAN ALEKSIC, PRESIDENT OF ‘’JSO’’, AUTONOMOUS UNION OF ‘’RTB’’ BOR
(MINING AND SMELTING WORKS)
SUPERFICIAL READING AND ACTING ON ORDER
Bor, February 5, 2007. ‘’We deny the statement given by Dragan Aleksic, President of ‘’JSO’’ – ‘’RTB’’ Bor (Mining and Smelting Works), Autonomous Trade Union, because it is untrue and biased. The information on continuation of the tender procedure, which we received from the Privatization Agency and informed the public about this information, is not classified within the domain of confidential information. Mr. Dragan Aleksic, member of the Tender Commission, should at least be familiar with this. He became a member of the Commission thanks to our consent’’, it is said in the official denial of the Joint Commissary Committee of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’RTB’’ Bor.
In the statement for the public, read on the RTV Bor on January 26, 2007, Dragan Aleksic, President of ‘’JSO’’, Autonomous Trade Union of ‘’RTB’’ Bor, said:
-‘’I must say that it is incomprehensible that an observer of the privatization process of ‘’RTB’’ Bor presents and discloses an information of confidential nature and that he is openly on the side of a potential buyer of ‘’RTB’’ Bor’s property. It would be logical that it was a Government or Privatization Agency’s representative. However, this is a workers’ representative, regardless of their number, and we are aware of the fact that they are in minority. The statements, communicated by some news media, confirm our information that the Privatization Agency and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Privatization have acted in such a way as to frighten all workers through their ‘’inside man’’ in the Trade Union’’.
The Joint Commissary Committee of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’RTB’’ Bor responded by making an official denial, read on the RTV Bor on January 29, 2007:
-‘’We deny the statement given by Dragan Aleksic, President of ‘’JSO’’, because it is untrue and biased. The information on the continuation of the tender procedure, which we received from the Privatization Agency, and informed the public about the information, is not classified within the domain of confidential information. Mr. Dragan Aleksic, member of the Tender Commission, should at least be familiar with this. He became a member of the Commission thanks to our consent’’. The thing that is really unbelievable is still a foolish attempt of preventing the privatization and leaving the problem to the future Government, whereby nothing is substantially going to change. The ‘’RTB’’ has to be privatized and oriented toward market economy. It’s not all the same whether the privatization process is going to end now or a few months later. Who will, in the meantime, pay regular and outstanding earnings, public transport allowance and vacation allowance for 2007? If Mr. Aleksic knows this, he should say it to workers and really be their representative instead of being a representative of those who got used to working solely by getting subsidies, credit and concluding disadvantageous contracts. It was nice while it lasted, but no one will ever allow this, because it is contrary to the market economy principles.
As the privatization process is getting near the end, they are panic-stricken, because their job with the future owner and employer is uncertain, so one should convince workers that it is better to delay the privatization and wait for an extremely uncertain destiny of ‘’RTB’’, which, by all indicators, leads to bankruptcy and loss of jobs for everyone. The difference between us and them is in that we do not have to read someone else’s statements. We have the liberty to be independent of the Government, executive management, political parties or conceited individuals.
For this reason, employees’ interest is in the first place, and we do not evaluate union’s size and grandeur by the size of a head, but by the value of the idea we support’’, it is said in the official denial.
