THE MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ LEADERSHIP VISITED ‘’TOPOLA’’ FOUNDRY – LIVAR GROUP, TOPOLA AND ‘’ZASTAVA AUTOMOBILI’’, KRAGUJEVAC

SOLVING PROBLEMS IN THE FIELD

Belgrade, January 26, 2007. Within regular visits to Commissary Committees, Dragan Matic, President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and Aleksandar Todic, Secretary, visited the Commissary Committees in ‘’Topola’’ Foundry – Livar Group, as well as the Commissary Committee of ‘’Zastava automobili’’.

During the visit, the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ leadership informed the unionists in these two companies about Union’s activities at the Republic level. Bearing in mind that ‘’Topola’’ Foundry was privatized by a Slovenian company, the current situation in the company has been considered with trade union representatives. The unionists of the Foundry have informed the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ leadership that the new employer complies with the clauses of the Purchase and Sales Contract, that he invests in the streamlining of the equipment and plants, and that they signed a Collective Agreement with the employer in 2005, which has been applied and observed. However, as colleagues from Topola say, there are certain problems to be considered in order that the situation is improved, and for this reason one will attend to signing a Collective Agreement on Safety and Industrial Hygiene with the employer, and the Job Safety Commission shall be formed. The colleagues from Topola are hoping they will succeed in securing better working conditions through this Agreement with the support of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. The MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ will schedule a meeting with the employer at which the stated problems will be discussed, and one will try to resolve those problems, faced by employees, through social dialogue.

By erection of the equipment for assembling Fiat Punto (Zastava 10), conditions will be created for employment of about 400 workers. The privatization of some other companies within ‘’Zastava’’ is expected, so that it will be possible to revive the production in those companies. Aware of ‘’Zastava’s’’ present situation, the commissaries of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union do not expect much from various promises, but they are going to fight for each workplace (job) and the possibility for survival.
