MEMBERS OF ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ TRADE UNION ‘’BRATSTVO’’ SUBOTICA INITIATED THE ACTION FOR WORKERS RIGHTS
THERE WILL BE A STRIKE ANYWAY
Subotica, June 2 2008
The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Bratstvo’’ tried to indicate, by warning strike, the readiness and justified reasons for non-observance of legal provisions and Collective Agreement, applicable in ‘’Bratstvo’’ Subotica. The seriousness of employees was manifested in persevering the demands relating to unpaid wages, drawing up Job Safety Agreement, payment of debts for pension and disability insurance, as well as drawing up a new Collective Agreement with the Employer, on May 15 2008, by a warning strike that lasted 1 hour, supported by a majority of employees. The time between the warning strike and the strike was used for negotiations, and this was the first sign of employer interest to meet the strikers demands.
Several questions at issue were agreed on and it remained that through talks and dialogue one had to find desired solutions, and everything to the interest of the company and employees.
The strikers of ‘’Bratstvo’’ received a large number of letters and telegrams of support from the entire Serbia, from colleagues of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, hoping that the Strikers Committee and the Management of ‘’Bratstvo’’ would find the solutions for the current situation soon.
