DESERTED, EMPTY WORKSHOPS: WORKERS OUTSIDE ON STRIKE
‘’PEOPLE, IS THIS POSSIBLE?’’

The young generations probably don’t remember the war film ‘’Battle on the Neretva’’, directed by our well-known movie director, Veljko Bulajic, which is practically impossible to find in CD Clubs nowadays. The admirers of a famous actor Jul Bruner at one time, who managed to blow up the bridge over the river Neretva and trick the enemy army in that war spectacle, could find their idol in Leskovac, i.e. in the former textile industry giant ‘’Leteks’’. Jul Bruner’s role was played by the director of the public company and later on of privatized company ‘’Leteks’’, Stanimir Petrovic, whose term of office has still not expired, and who, guided by the ideas of the company proprietor, Zorica Gajic, managed to tear down the former company.

It’s not only known whom he managed to deceive. Those aren’t workers, which, led by ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union, went on strike after the Factory was torn down, in which the new owner dismantled the entire equipment as well, which was in operation up to the moment of privatization (November 30 2006), and was sold as scrap iron.

After such privatization, only deserted workshops remained, without machines and equipmen, but with people which once worked with those machines, and they are now on strike in the factory area.

Viewers of this peacetime destruction horror film was the member of the MWBU Presidency, Stanislav Krasic, and Vice-President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Tomasevic Branimir.

The reason for this visit was in fact the visit of a 3-member team of the Privatization Agency (Office in Nis) which was informed about the situation in the privatized company of which they have to state their opinion.

Workers of ‘’Leteks’’ expect that the evaluation of inspector from the mentioned Agency will bring about the termination of the Sales Contract. The expectations that the present director can influence the improvement of the situation are unrealistic, because those who know him, are aware of the fact that he has neither the capacities nor desire to carry this out. The owner expects to take more money from the seller of the public capital after an unavoidable termination of the Sales Contract.

Those who ruined this textile industry giant have to be sanctioned.
