THE STRIKE SEASON IN THE SOUTH OF SERBIA BEGAN
SYNDROME ‘’PECONI’’ MOVED TO THE SOUTH OF SERBIA

The privatization of ‘’Leteks’’ took place on November 30 2006. Workers expected the start of operations, because it was agreed with the company owner that she would pay out the outstanding earnings to them in continuity, but instead, she emptied the factory workrooms, sold all the machines as scrap iron and opened a Ready-made Clothing Factory ‘’Konfekcija’’ where she employed new workers that she didn’t register with the competent authorities, and she sent the present employees to unpaid leave of absence. Workers were revolted and initiated an action for exercising their basic rights. They demand the observance of the Collective Agreement, re-considering the Labor Contract which they signed, observance and application of the Labor Law that guarantees payment of outstanding wages to them, traveling allowances, hot meal, vacation allowance, etc.

The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union takes steps that the situation in ‘’Leteks’’ D.O.O. normalizes, regarding workers rights, in cooperation with the Labor Inspection, because the employer does not accept social dialogue. Such scandalous conduct of employer forced this Union to initiate a strike and the Strikers Committee stated the following demands:

1.Payment of outstanding wages on the whole for June, July, August, September, October and November 2007 and January and February 2008,
2.Payment of traveling allowances with February 29 2008 inclusive, and in compliance with the C.A. with the employer,
3.Payment of unpaid hot meal with February 29 2008 inclusive,
4.Payment of unpaid vacation allowance,
5.Improvement of employee working conditions and safety.

The Strikers Committee and representatives of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union notified the Labor Inspection in Leskovac, so that their arrival is expected soon.
