COMMENT: WHEN THE LAMBS CALM DOWN ...
THEY FORGOT THE PEOPLE AND PROMISES THEY MADE
Belgrade, March 7, 2007.
The first political promise – ‘’fight against crime’’. How this promise was kept one could have seen best when several hundred policemen, armed to the teeth, were sent very late at night to establish order among peaceful farmers of Macva. These same farmers served, until yesterday, to that political elite, as a promotional ambient in an expensive and long-lasting election campaign. When the purchase price had to be increased for the same small animals and bovine cattle, our political elite reached for clubs instead of money. The second promise –‘’people’s interests – before policy’’. How this promise was kept, one could establish by the fact that the Government hasn’t still been formed and no one knows whether and when it would be formed. That ministers’ “armchairs” are more important than workers, peasants and other social layers, it can be established by the fact how obstinately political parties represent their personnel (ruler’s) policy.
In the editorial of the last issue of “Metalpres”, Dragan Matic, President of MWBU “Nezavisnost”, predicted what could happen after the “historical’’ January elections:
-“Individuals won’t be satisfied with these elections, but voters will be deceived, who will complain already on January 22 about making a bad choice and that they will never again vote for those from ‘’yesterday’’. Those from “yesterday” will come to power and become authority. They will forget their promises, form unprincipled coalitions. The voters will have to wait for the next chance and naturally, new elections.”
What has been predicted, really happened. The first political promise - fight against crime.
How this promise was kept one could have seen best when several hundred policemen, armed to the teeth, were sent very late at night to establish order among peaceful farmers of Macva. These same farmers served, until yesterday, to that political elite, as a promotional ambient in an expensive and long-lasting election campaign.
Poor pigs, lambs, calves and poultry were very frightened in their stalls, livestock farms and chicken coops, during election campaign, of colorful neckties, TV cameras, gold watches, and they almost got a stress.
When the purchase price had to be increased for the same small animals and bovine cattle, our political elite reached for clubs instead of money. They sent the police at these farmers to disperse them by force, as if they were “enemies of the State”. A democratic way, isn’t it! After a forced purchase of cattle after World War II, the peasants were again “face to face” with “democratic” clubs. This “blemish’’ will shame the political elite in Serbia for a long time. The Serbian peasants have no trade union organization, so Predrag Bubalo’s attitude is not surprising, namely, that he won’t accept to talk to peasants, i.e. that he will be ready to talk to them when he feels like it or if he feels like it at all.
This blasphemous Government’s provocation and disorderly conduct toward peasants is indicated by the fact that a major part of this same political establishment is of peasant origin. The peasants usually say for such people – “The leek sticks out from their ass!”
This political elite does not send several hundred policemen at real criminals and tycoons, who ruined many workers, factories and government property. Let’s recall how a controversial Serbian businessman Predrag Rankovic Peconi treated the workers of “Milan Blagojevic AD” from Smederevo, by welcoming workers in front of the factory with dogs “Dobermans” and his private armed security.
The second promise – people’s interests – before policy.
The promised decision-making on people’s interests – unemployment, poverty, crime, corruption, ‘’white plague’’, drugs, prostitution, entering the EU - that can wait and must wait. Authority is ‘’authority’’ – it is more important for them to come to power. Like people, like power.
Some trade union leaders are not insensitive to pleasures and enjoyment of power. Ms. Ranka Savic, President of ‘’ASNS’’, declaring herself to be the so-called ‘’workers’ mother’’, showed her true colors to workers and threatened Bozidar Djelic, candidate of the Democratic Party for the Government’s mandatory, to ‘’watch what he does!’’ Ranka doesn’t keep a secret that she represents the interests of a party which founded ‘’ASNS’’, and not real interests of employees and of its members. Ranka Savic, ‘’workers’ mother Teresa’’ and ‘’fighter for workers’ rights’’, demands, at any cost, to be ‘’paid’’ for her political engagement in the election campaign, to say exactly, to be appointed Minister of Labor in the near future. Those are trade union’s manners, democratic and honest!
