SABAC: ’’ZORKA NON-FERROUS METALLURGY’’
A WARNING TO THE LESSEE
Sabac, December 26, 2006
The thing that is really a rare event in Serbia is a situation in which the management and unions have joint positions concerning the same problem and at the same time they are willing to defend their positions. Just this happened in Sabac, more precisely, in ’’Zorka – Non-Ferrous Metallurgy’’.
In compliance with the Lease and Management Contract the Indian company ’’Indo zinc smelters’’ took on lease the manufacturing capacities and hired the manpower of ’’Non-Ferrous Metallurgy’’ in 2003, with the obligation to pay out the earnings to employees on a regular basis, liability based on insurance, i.e. everything that is provided for by the Labor Law and other laws existing in the Republic of Serbia. The workers discharged their obligations properly, so that the representatives of ’’Indo zinc smelters’’ didn’t have any objections.
-’’However, by pursuing your business politics, you have incurred enormous debts to creditors and employees, resulting in your incapability to organize the production process continuity and pay out the earnings to employees. If our statements are true, we demand that you file a request for Lease Contract termination or pay out the earnings for November 2006 and continue the production’’ – it is said in joint addressing of the representatives of ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union and the Autonomous Union of ’’Zorka – Non-Ferrous Metallurgy’’’.
A letter with similar content was also sent by the director Aleksa Kovacevic, who suggested that the Privatization Agency and representatives of ’’Zorka’’ Holding should be involved in the dispute. Perhaps, it would be good to explain to the Indian employer our people’s saying which was often stated by our enemies:
’’God, don’t let the Serbs unite’’!
