SUBREGIONAL MEETING OF UNIONS OF THE WESTERN BALKANS

ROLE AND POSITION OF UNIONS IN NEW CONDITIONS

Supporting the resolutions of the I Regional Meeting of Unions of the Western Balkans, held in Sarajevo on June 7, 2006, with the view of preparing for the meeting of Unions from Central and East Europe and the new independent states, the holding of which was planned for December 6, 2006 in Brussels, the II Regional Meeting of Unions of the Western Balkans was held in Montenegro.

The meeting was jointly organized by the International Confederation of Unions (ICU) and European Confederation of Unions (ECU). The key topics at the meeting were the following: Role and position of regional unions in the new International Union Organization – ICU, with special emphasis on future forming of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC). The second item of the agenda was regional union cooperation in the future. The PERC’s Draft Statute was also distributed.

The meeting was attended by Union representatives from Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania. The colleagues Hubert Cambier, manager of the Central and East Europe Division of the ICU, Grigor Gradev from the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI-REHS), Ana Knezevic, President of the FAUC and Slavoljub Lukovic, Secretary of UBU ’’Nezavisnost’’, the participation of which was confirmed, were prevented from coming to Kotor, because of weather conditions at Dubrovnik airport.
