SOCIAL-ECONOMIC COUNCIL: “SNOW FALL” IN SEC

LALE AND VULE

Belgrade, December 5, 2006
The promptness and efficiency showed by minister Slobodan Lalovic, by putting the problems of metal industry complex on the agenda of the Socio-Economic Council (SEC), really surprised not only the representatives of UBU “Nezavisnost” and Serbian Businessmen Association (SBA), but also the representatives of SEC of the “Autonomous Union”, says Dragan Matic, President of MWBU “Nezavisnost”.

The least informed was minister Predrag Bubalo, who rejected the demands of Metal Workers’ Autonomous Union of Serbia (MWAUS), but this did not keep his party colleague Slobodan Lalovic from announcing, at the press conference, the forming of a Commission composed of representatives of UBU “Nezavisnost”, SBA and Federation of Metal Workers’ Union of Serbia. A question arose as to how one such serious and important item of the SEC agenda could appear so quickly and unprepared at the SEC Session?

One could see that minister Lalovic “stirred up” something, but a question was put: for what reason and motive.

A struggle began in Serbian Autonomous Union for ascending the “Union throne”. Minister Lalovic (read “Serbian Democratic Party”) who supports Zoran Vujovic, sends a clear message to the membership of the Federation of Autonomous Unions of Serbia and to other Branch Unions on which it counts, and who is, among the “young lions” from Serbian Autonomous Union, acceptable for cooperation.

This is nothing new concerning the conduct of Serbian Autonomous Union which is still called “Sloba’s Union”.

The Union colleagues have always preferred a “vassal”, but a secure position of the “government union”. It seems as if I hear the words of great leader (Sloba) who says: “Don’t worry comrades from the Federation of Autonomous Unions of Serbia, I am going away, but I am not leaving you alone, you have Serbian Democratic Party and Minister Lalovic, and they will help you to survive on the union “scene”, even if you make progress with “class and satisfaction”.

The President of Serbian Metal Workers’ Autonomous Union states: “The election process is in progress and we want to use that time and point, in due course, to the interests of our members”, said Zoran Vujovic, President of Serbian Metal Workers’ Autonomous Union, at the press conference held on November 23, 2006, by presenting the Agreement of Cooperation of this Union with the political parties.

And then, “Bingo”: “The Metal Workers’ Union is bound by this Agreement to show its members, during the pre-election campaign, what it advocates and pleads for and with which parties it cooperates in that sense. On the other hand, the parties are obliged to consult the Union on the occasion of nomination of the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Policy and Minister of Economy, and that in exercising power it will support the Union’s proposals of improvement and protection of workers’ and union’s rights”.

Do you really believe in this???

Finally, Look! A miracle! Signing of the “agreement” has been continued by Lale’s Serbian Democratic Party, and they expect that others are going to do that too, namely, radicals, Socialist Party members. A key question arises: How is it possible to expect that those who have been ruining the metal industry for three years by decisions, laws and concrete acts, as claimed by colleague Vujovic, can remedy all this now?!

The Union – political trade has begun… We buy and sell … various kinds of pots, votes, fog … The MWBU “Nezavisnost” is going to monitor attentively the happenings concerning this issue and who will, at the end, be “mad” and who “confused”.
