“ROUND TABLE”: DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN AT THE WORKPLACE
THE PROBLEM HAS STILL NOT BEEN DEFINED
Belgrade, November 22, 2006
A “Round Table” on the subject “Discrimination against women at the workplace” was held in Belgrade on November 18, 2006, and organized by the Women’s Section of UBU “Nezavisnost”.
Two presentations served as an introduction to discussion at “round table”. Gordana Aleksic performed the analysis of research on discrimination against women at the workplace in Serbia, which was jointly realized by the Women’s Section of UBU “Nezavisnost” and Women’s Section of the Autonomous Unions Federation. This project was launched, in coordination with Women’s Network for Southeast Europe, MKSS, MFR and International Labor Organization (ILO), and implemented in all countries of former Yugoslavia and Albania in the duration of two years. The research on the same subject was presented by Marija Lukic, M. Sc., member of the Group for promotion of women’s political rights - “Voice of distinction”.
The conclusion from this “round table” was that discrimination against women at the workplace existed in Serbia, but that it has still not been identified and recognized sufficiently by the employed women and those from the labor market. The unionists, employers and the entire public should be informed about the problem of discrimination against women at the workplace, and this is, to a certain degree, the target of the project in 2007.
