The reason for organizing this meeting was the possibility of stronger integration of Unions in U. S. Steel Europe, namely, Unions of U. S. Steel Serbia, d.o.o. and U. S. Steel Kosice. The information on economic and political events in Serbia and Slovakia was presented during a two-day meeting. It was recognized that common problems existed, especially when employees’ rights and treating of employees and unions by employer were in question.

When the word was about the situation in U. S. Steel, after the information presented by the colleagues from Smederevo and Kosice, it was noted that the situation was almost the same, and that the employer used the same strategy and approach in the negotiations, Collective Agreement and treating of employees. During the discussion, a few ideas emerged, and the need for stronger integration and cooperation was recognized, as well as forming of European Employees’ Council in U. S. Steel in the near future, when the conditions were fulfilled. Until these conditions have been fulfilled, the Unions within U. S. Steel Europe are willing to exchange the information on a regular basis, discuss about Collective Agreements, meet more often, organize meetings with the employer together for getting the information necessary for proper representing of employees in U. S. Steel Europe. The Unions shall request the Company to bear the expenses for organizing joint meetings. At the proposal of “Nezavisnost” Union, the colleagues of USWA, EMF and IMF should be included in these activities too. It has been agreed that the next meeting should be held in Serbia, and the Unions shall schedule the date of the meeting subsequently.

OZ “KOVO” is willing to assist the MWBU “Nezavisnost”, based on its experience so far, in the process of joining the European Union, as well as in solving the problems they faced before and after entering the European Union.
