IN THE ORGANIZATION OF FRIEDRICH EBERT FOUNDATION

SEMINAR ON SOCIAL PROBLEMS IN THE TRANSITION PERIOD

Belgrade, November 16, 2006
A seminar on social problems in the transition period was held in Belgrade Aeroclub on November 13 and 14, 2006. The participants in the seminar, which was organized and supported by Friedrich Ebert Foundation, were representatives of both representative Unions in Serbia.

The introduction to the subject was a lecture titled “Transition and social victims of changes”, which was given by Dr Marija Kolin, from the Institute of Social Sciences, Belgrade. The “face” of transition period with all its problems was presented, and how the transition could still gain in importance, regarding social aspect, in that pessimistic environment.

This was another successful seminar at which some up-to-date topics in this transition phase were, unfortunately, only mentioned. The organizer, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, promised us that each of these topics would be considered and discussed at special seminars at the beginning of next year. The seminar was not attended by the representatives of Serbian Employers’ Union, with the explanation that they were very busy, although social issues should be interesting for all social partners.

The seminar was also attended by seven members of UBU “Nezavisnost”, and among them, two representatives of MWBU “Nezavisnost”.
