PROTEST OF THE ''FAU'' AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT




Belgrade, November 3, 2006
The chairman of the Socio-Economic Council of the Republic of Serbia, Slobodan Lalovic, Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Policy, convened a session for November 7, 2006, because of the ''protest'' of members of the Autonomous Metal Workers' Union of Serbia in front of the building of Serbian Government.
More than 60 union members was sufficient that the demand of the Autonomous Metal Workers' Union of Serbia would be put as the first item of the agenda at the Session of the Socio-Economic Council. Also, ''Opinions will be stated at the Session concerning the extended effect of a Special Collective Agreement for employees of cultural institutions, the founder of which is the Republic''. The signatory of this Collective Agreement for cultural institutions is ''Nezavisnost'' Branch Union of Culture.
This Collective Agreement applies to 2300 employees in the institutions, the founder of which is the Republic, while 7350 employees are employed in other cultural institutions. Labor and legal protection would be provided for all employees in the area of culture by extended effect of this Collective Agreement, what would conduce towards implementing a stable economic and especially social policy in the Republic of Serbia. The demands of the Autonomous Metal Workers' Union of Serbia, delivered to the Serbian Government, are stated in ten items, namely, the following has been requested: Start-up of industrial production, privatization of large systems, boosting employment, protection of domestic production, stimulation of export, increase of severance pay for the redundancies, adopting national strategy of economic development, social dialogue, amendments to the Privatization Law, as well as the amendments to the Law on Employment.
The Vice-President of UBU ''Nezavisnost'', Zoran Stoiljkovic, President of MWBU ''Nezavisnost'', Dragan Matic, and Senior Vice-President of UBU ''Nezavisnost'' in the Socio-Economic Council of the Republic of Serbia will be present at this Session.
