AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF SMEDEREVO REGARDING THE ‘’CLOSING OF EYES’’ AFTER 200 NOTICES OF DISMISSAL TO STRIKERS OF ‘’MBS’’
’GOOD’’ FOR THE AUTHORITIES – ‘’BAD’’ FOR WORKERS
Smederevo, October 27, 2006
‘’Interceding of Strikers’ Committee of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’MBS INVEJ’’ that industrial conflicts should be settled through dialogue, with full respect of government institutions, in the case of strike of ‘’MBS INVEJ’’ workers, resulted in hundreds of notices of dismissal to workers.
Mr. Radosavljevic, by being elected President of Smederevo Municipality, you have received an assignment, but you haven’t discharged the task at this time, and the people of Smederevo still expect this from you. You do not take measures to protect the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Serbia, rights of each citizen of Serbia, and Smederevo was, is and will be Serbia …’’ it is said in the letter of Dragan Matic, President of MWBU “Nezavisnost”.
It is said in the letter, among other things:
''Smederevo Municipality, Sasa Radosavljevic, President. Interceding of Strikers’ Committee of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’MBS INVEJ’’ that industrial conflicts should be settled through dialogue, with full respect of government institutions, in the case of strike of ‘’MBS INVEJ’’ workers, resulted in hundreds of notices of dismissal to workers. Although the work Inspection, when issuing the decisions to employees for their return to work, indicated and pointed out to the employer clearly and loudly what he has violated, what and within which terms he has to fulfill, the employer ignored all this and started usurping the strikers’ and employees’ rights more violently, again violating the law.
Mr. Radosavljevic, by being elected President of Smederevo Municipality, you have received an assignment, but you haven’t discharged the task at this time, and the people of Smederevo still expect this from you. You do not take measures to protect the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of Serbia, rights of each citizen of Serbia, and Smederevo was, is and will be Serbia.
You are supporting the campaign for the new Constitution in a hypocritical manner and you are not capable of safeguarding individual rights of citizens and workers guaranteed to them by the present, old Constitution. Who are you lying? The citizens and ‘’MBS’’ workers see that, and we must inform your party ‘’leader’’, Prime Minister of Serbia, Vojislav Kostunica, in what way you give support by ‘’anti-Constitutional’’ drive that Serbia will become ‘’its own on its proper territory’’ on October 28 and 29. By your conduct in Smederevo you are sending a clear signal for defending Kosovo and Metohija. You do not know how to protect the citizens of Smederevo from an unbridled ethno-criminal businessman who lost his head, and there are two to three million Albanians on Kosovo and Metohija, the territory being out of Serbian control, International Community turned against us and many other things. There is nothing to fear of when we have Mr. Peconi’s empire in Smederevo. Who is Ahtisari compared to Peconi, who is the ‘’law’’. This is the way the ‘’MBS’’ workers and citizens of Smederevo view that.
In order to achieve success at the referendum for a new Constitution, I kindly ask you to submit your resignation from the post of Municipality President and not undermine the reflections by anti-campaign, i.e. your acting toward Peconi, that we need a new Constitution when you don’t want to protect the old one either.
I remind you that the promise you made to the representatives of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union concerning your involvement and intervention in the settlement of the strike in ‘’MBS’’ just before the manifestation ‘’Smederevska jesen’’ has not been kept. How do you ‘’protect’’ us when we get notices of dismissal and suspensions all the time. You refuse to meet the president of Strikers’ Committee of ‘’MBS’’, colleague Goran Rakic, and I’m not quite sure about your meeting with Peconi. We fulfilled the promise we made, at your request, just before ‘’Smederevska jesen’’. We did not demolish the ‘’MBS’’ stand in the workroom and thereby cast a shadow on that manifestation. The strikers were giving flowers to businessmen who exhibited their products. I suggest that you schedule an urgent meeting with the representatives of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union and assume responsibility for the events that occurred in ‘’MBS’’. On the contrary ….Let it be a little surprise, as for you so also for the citizens of Smederevo’’, it is said at the end of the letter of Dragan Matic, President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’.
