VRNJACKA BANJA – SEMINAR ON ‘’LABOR LAW AND SOCIAL DIALOGUE’’

OBJECTIVE – PROMOTION OF LABOR LEGISLATION




Vrnjacka Banja, October 15-18, 2006

A Seminar was held in Vrnjacka Banja from October 15 – 18, 2006, organized by ‘’Friedrich Ebert’’ Foundation, on the subject: “Labor Law and Social Dialogue”. This is the fourth seminar on the subject of analysis, advantages and deficiencies of Labor Law and specific problems concerning its application.

The following representative unions took part in the work of the seminar: UBU “Nezavisnost” and Autonomous Unions Federation of Serbia, Employers’ Association, Serbian Employers’ Union and Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Policy of Serbian Government. The solutions, associated with Labor Law, were considered at this fourth seminar, pertaining to: subject matter and procedure of collective negotiating, relations between employer and union, proceeding in labor disputes and strikes, Workers’ Council, surplus manpower, protection of some employee categories and Solidarity Fund.

The target of the entire project titled “Labor Law and Social Dialogue” is that social partners analyze the Labor Law, after one year of its application and identify the shortcomings causing problems in pragmatic application, and thereby, the problems in the development of social dialogue in Serbia. The project envisages organizing another two seminars, after which a booklet would be issued, which would help social partners in further work in the development and promotion of labor legislation through social dialogue.
