International week of action aimed at uncertain jobs: September 30 – October 7 2008
UNCERTAIN JOB AFFECTS ALL OF US
Belgrade, September 15 2008
The IMF has devoted special attention, for a longer time period, to uncertain jobs, illegal work, part-time jobs, employment without Contract, hired labor, as well as to other flexible job forms not securing certainty for employees, Collective Agreements, Labor Contracts, as well as minimum lawful norms, that are not observed in compliance with ILO Recommendation no. 198.
Employees performing uncertain jobs are directly faced with:
-uncertain future
-no social benefits
-high job safety and health risks
-they are deprived of the right to unionist organizing
-constant threat of losing a job instantly, etc.
Uncertain jobs adversely affect all employees, they lead to inexpensive labor force, labor cost reduction, they are used as a form of exerting pressure on trade unions, gap between the rich and the poor is deepened, they affect the status of women and youth.
This problem isn’t an individual problem and doesn’t concern only those workers working in these conditions, but a problem of all of us. This is why trade unions must take up the problem seriously, raise their voice and show solidarity with all those who work in such conditions.
With the view of enhancing the awareness of all social layers and calling the attention to this increasingly present problem, the MFM and EMF, as well as other global trade unions announced a global week aimed at uncertain jobs, in the period from September 30 – October 7 2008. The MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ will take part in this global action in an adequate way and express its solidarity and disagreement with this kind of discrimination.
