IMT and manufacturers of agricultural machines deserve adequate status and the same chance as ’’Zastava’’ and Serbian automotive industry. Support from municipal authorities necessary
AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY AS A CHANCE FOR METAL INDUSTRY
Belgrade, September 1 2008
The concern of the IMT representative trade unions resulted in a meeting held in the Ministry of the Economy and Regional Development with Mr. Nebojsa Ciric, Undersecretary. Union representatives were concerned about the privatization process in the IMT and the status of 1100 workers employed in the IMT. The first tender for the IMT was unsuccessful, because Zepter Company desisted from purchase, and in compliance with the law, the sale procedure was offered to the company that ranked second, i.e. Polish company ’’Polmot’’, but unfortunately, this company also desisted from purchase, so that the MPC Company now appears as potential buyer of 70% of the IMT capital. Unionists support the identical solution of ’’Zastava’’ privatization to be applied to IMT as well, more precisely, that the State should find a strategic partner and that employees should be given the right as it was the case with ’’Zastava’’ employees. The Vice-President of the Government, Mr. M. Dinkic, announced such a possibility by stating that employees in the companies being in the restructuring process could count on benefits and facilities given to ’’Zastava’’ employees.
The MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ will initiate comprehensive actions in order to engage the municipal structures of Belgrade in getting support for the agricultural machinery program associated with companies of the metal industry complex. We hope that those endeavors of ours will meet with understanding and that, as the ultimate result, we will get strategic partners for the IMT, IMR and other companies of metal industry complex of the city of Belgrade.
