THE THIRD IN THE SERIES ‘’WEEK OF SOCIAL DEMOCRACY’’ ORGANIZED ON PALIC

‘’WHAT IS THE SOLUTION – I AM THE ONE WHO CAN FIND IT’’

The third in the series ‘’Week of Social Democracy’’ was organized this year in the period July 11-18 in a Camp near Palic Lake under the sponsorship of Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and the slogan: ‘’What is the solution – I am the one who can find it.’’ This event gathered 70 participants from the countries of ex Yugoslavia, youth members of social democratic parties and students organizations, trade union Youth Section and active members of the non-government sector.

The interactive lectures were given by the professor of the Faculty of Political Science, Vladimir Pavicevic, on the subject of the European Union, European integrations, Political ideology of socialism, Ideas of social democracy and American Institutions. Young people had the opportunity, through workshops, to acquire the following skills: negotiating, teamwork and campaign conducting. This knowledge aimed at promoting some of the most important social democracy values such as solidarity, equality, tolerance, etc.

Open speeches were given by Gordana Comic, Vice-President of Serbian Parliament and Democratic Party, Nenad Canak, member of Parliament and President of Social Democratic League of Vojvodina, as well as Zarko Korac, member of Parliament and President of Social Democratic Union. Mrs. Comic spoke about the ideology of social democracy and situation on the Serbian political scene, Mr. Canak gave the analysis of newly formed government and Mr. Korac spoke about the EU and Serbia’s continued path toward the EU.

The newly elected mayor of Subotica, Sasa Vucinic, as the host, welcomed all the participants. As a guest, the lecture on institutional development and current presidential elections in America was given by Tom Kelly, NDI Director in Serbia.

Within the ‘’Week of Social Democracy’’, formerly mentioned workshop ‘’Serbian Cafë’’ was organized in a slightly altered form. The participants had the opportunity to discuss various topics with moderators.

Member of the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Youth Section, Danica Tomasevic, in cooperation with colleague Marija Dimitrijevic of the CATUS Youth Section conducted the talks on the subject of ‘’Young people’s status in the labor market.’’

On the last day of the Seminar the participants received the Certificates and the evaluation showed that the ‘’Camp’’ was very successful.
