Giuseppe Farina, President of FIM – CISL, Federazione Italiana Metalmeccanici talked to representatives of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. Old friendship confirmed
FIAT – NEW AREA OF COOPERATION
Torino, August 5 2008
One of the first Trade Unions from the European Union that fully supported the development of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ was FIM – CISL. This cooperation was confirmed on the occasion of the Meeting of FIM – CISL representative, Giuseppe Farina and President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Dragan Matic. The presence of Italian companies in Serbia is becoming more frequent, and FIAT’s presence in Kragujevac – ‘’Zastava automobili’’ is especially important. FIAT’s investment, estimated at one billion Euro, promised the development of Serbian automotive industry which would include over ten thousand Serbian workers with potential collaborators. It can be said that FIAT is a potential driving force of Serbian industry development.
FIAT’s presence in Serbia encouraged other investors to invest in Serbian industry. The FIM – CISL’s support is important for Serbian trade unions, because they can be informed directly about this multinational ‘’giant’’ that employs nearly 150.000 workers around the world, of which 30.000 workers are employed in FIAT’s division that produces cars. Operation, safety, industrial hygiene, member education Standards represent a knowledge base for MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and its adapting to a new employer, such as FIAT.
As a follow-up of cooperation between MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ and ‘’FIM – CISL’’, an invitation is expected for participation in a large meeting of trade union representatives of all companies and States where FIAT has its facilities. The meeting has been scheduled for September 5 – 6 2008 and will be held in Torino.
The President of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’, Nenad Matic, spoke about ‘’Zastava’’ from Kragujevac, historical development, current situation, to colleagues from Italy, and Leonardo Burno, FIAT Group coordinator and Gianni Alioti of FIM - CISL International Division participated as ‘’FIM CISL’’ representatives.
After Rome, FIAT – Torino was visited, namely, a tour was organized including the visit to the most streamlined facilities with automated lines and robots. FIAT’s host, Alberto Cipriani, together with his Trade Union Committee, exchanged the information with colleagues from Serbia, Dragan Matic and Nenad Matic. FIAT’s Factory in Torino, Mirafiori, employs about 25.000 workers and this is the biggest FIAT’s Factory presently.
FIAT’s arrival in Serbia was planned thoroughly in a longer time period and FIM – CISL Union supported this. FIAT fully applies and observes the European Operation Codes in all companies regardless of the country in which the companies are located.
The Operation Schedule for the following years will be presented by Mr. Flavio Marcione, the ‘’first man’’ of FIAT, on September 5 – 6 2008 in Torino, namely, at the Meeting of all trade union representatives within FIAT Group. Concrete cooperation was agreed with colleagues of FIAT in the form of Seminars and transfer of experience that FIM – CISL has within FIAT.
