FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
Moscow, July 21 2008
During a five-day visit to Russian Trade Union of Metallurgists and Miners ‘’GMPR’’, the delegation of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ was informed about this union’s activities and active union members. Friendly relations between Russian and Serbian people, lasting several decades, were confirmed. The delegation of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, led by the President, Dragan Matic, was welcomed by the President of ‘’GMPR’’ and deputy in Russian ‘’Duma’’, Mihail Vasilevic Tarasenko with associates. On this occasion, the delegation of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ visited the Metallurgical Works ‘’Giant’’ in Novolipeck and participated in the celebration of Metallurgists’ Day in Moscow. The result of the visit was a signed Communiqué on cooperation of trade union ‘’GMPR’’ and MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, which envisaged a mutual support, exchange of experience with full observance of democratic principle, workers solidarity, pleading for peace and social progress.
Addressing the participants in the central celebration of Metallurgists’ Day of ‘’GMPR’’ Union in Moscow, the President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, Dragan Matic, stressed:
-‘’I hereby convey fraternal greetings of Serbian workers and ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Trade Union and I wish that our common Slovene roots connect deeply our two peoples in the future. Workers in Serbia have the same desires and hopes as Russian workers. Unfortunately, we have similar problems too. We can learn a lot from each other and help each other as well. Serbia and Russia, as States, and we, as trade union representatives, have to establish friendly relations throughout the world and especially in Europe. Serbia is a small country with significant economic and political problems. The official Russian policy is on ‘’Serbian side’’, and Serbian people are really very grateful for this.’’
The ‘’GMPR’’ Trade Union has 1.200.000 members in over 85 companies throughout Russia. The so-called ‘’Dynasties’’ had a prominent place in the central celebration of Russian Metallurgists Day this year, namely, family members employed in the Metallurgical Complex, whose grandfathers and great grandfathers together had over 100 years of service in the Iron & Steel Industry.
The signed Communiqué between Trade Unions ‘’GMPR’’ and MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, as well as sincere talks to Russian metallurgists, confirmed a substantial closeness of Russian and Serbian people.
The ‘’GMPR’’ representatives confirmed their participation in VI Congress of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, which will take place on September 18-19 2008 in Novi Sad. After that, the ‘’GMPR’’ delegation, composed of several members, shall visit Serbia and MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’.
