THIRTY DELEGATES OF THE ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ BRANCH UNION OF ‘’TLFI’’ TOOK PART IN THE CONGRESS WHICH TOOK PLACE IN NOVI SAD. NEW MEMBERS AND TEXTILE INDUSTRY STUDY

A MAJORITY MADE A DECISION

Belgrade, July 1 2008
The ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry will not succumb to ‘’hysteria’’, created around B. Canak (co-owner of the newspaper ‘’Danas’’) and directed towards ‘’settlement of accounts’’ with Metal Workers. Friendship and good cooperation between metal and textile industry workers has already been confirmed in the Trustee Offices within the Region, in solving the most difficult employee problems. The seriousness of problems in the ‘’TLFI’’ is such that there is no chance of improving the situation in textile industry companies without joint activities and actions, as well as the utilization of all metal and textile industry workers capacities. The Report of the activities and preparations for the MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Congress and the ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of ‘’TLFI’’ was submitted by Dragan Matic, coordinator for ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of ‘’TLFI’’ and President of MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’.

TEXTILE INDUSTRY WORKERS AT THE CONGRESS IN NOVI SAD

Thirty men and women colleagues of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of ‘’TLFI’’ will be delegates of their branch unions at the Congress which will take place in Novi Sad on September 18 and 19 2008.

The present members of the Leading Committee have been informed of an attempt of obstruction of the Leading Committee of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ Branch Union of ‘’TLFI’’. All this has been done by B. Canak who abused individuals. Those individuals were promised various privileges if they made certain favors for him. A Draft Statute of ‘’INDUSTRIAL BRANCH UNION ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ has been prepared. This Statute will be reviewed at future sessions of metal and textile industry workers and then forwarded to the Congress.

SEVEN NEW ORGANIZATIONS

Textile industry workers have faced many problems in their companies, such as: post-privatization, non-observance of Sales Agreements and the Law, payment of wages below minimum and the problem of engaging Labor Inspection. Good news is that another seven organizations have been founded: Ready-made Garments Industry – ‘’Raska’’ from Novi Pazar, ‘’Leteks’’ from Leskovac, ‘’Gentleman’’ from Koceljevo, ‘’Buducnost’’ from Leskovac, ‘’Pompea Serb d.o.o.’’, ‘’Brus’’ Zrenjanin and ‘’Klara’’ from Zajecar.
