IV ORDINARY SESSION OF THE LEADING COMMITTEE OF ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ BRANCH UNION OF TEXTILE, LEATHER AND FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY DEDICATED TO PREPARATIONS FOR THE CONGRESS AND WORK-OUT OF THE STUDY TITLED ‘’SITUATION AND PROSPECTS OF TEXTILE, GARMENT, LEATHER AND FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY’’

TEXTILE INDUSTRY WORKERS HAVE TO MAKE A STEP FORWARD

Belgrade, April 2008

The status of textile industry workers is not improving, but on the contrary, an increasing number of employees do not even get a guaranteed minimum pay on the level of the Republic of Serbia, and employers are usurping workers rights to a considerable extent, thereby violating the Law. One should look for partial answers to these problems in the content (subject matter) of the Study titled ‘’Situation and Prospects of Textile, Garment, Leather and Footwear Industry’’, which will be completed by the end of June. We will try to include Sector Departments and representatives of Employers Union in the work-out of this Study, and thereby enable the recovery of Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry through joint contribution.

The L.C. accepted the Work Report submitted by the coordinator (facilitator) of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ B.U. of TLF, D. Matic, and the Financial Statement of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ B.U. of TLF was adopted.

By stating the activities concerning preparations for the Congress of Uniting ‘’Nezavisnost’’ B.U. of TLF and MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, D. Matic stressed great expectations from the Congress results, as well as that the number of Congress delegates was determined, namely, 250, which will exceed the figure of 300 together with guests. Also, a decision on Congress co-financing was made, so that 10% of the income of ‘’Nezavisnost’’ B.U. of TLF would be paid to a sub-account in the next 6 months, which was opened for collecting the funds for the purpose of Congress organizing.

The development of trade union organization system, regular high-quality services rendered to our members, Study work-out and preparations for the Congress, as well as an active participation in the Project titled ‘’Unionist Organizing and Improving the Standard in the Textile Industry in South-East Europe’’ will be preferential tasks to be dealt with by ‘’Nezavisnost’’ B.U. of TLF and MWBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ until the Congress.
