EUROPEAN METAL WORKERS FEDERATION ON SHUTTING DOWN ‘’NOKIA’’ FACTORY

SHUTTING DOWN CELLULAR PHONE FACTORY IN BOHUM

Brussels, February 4 2008
Today, Peter Scherrer, EMF Secretary General, with headquarters in Brussels, said that shutting down ‘’Nokia’s’’ Cellular Phone Factory in Bohum was a ‘’blow in the face’’ of all employees. Such an action of the mentioned Factory represents a serious violation of the European Labor Council Directive. The factory must be prepared for the sanctions and court trial, in compliance with the law.

The EMF demands that shut-down of the Factory is called off immediately, which only aims at increasing the profit that is not low even at this time. The Management should enter into negotiations with concerned Trade Unions immediately, National Workers Council and European Labor Council, because the EMF is authorized to safeguard workers rights on European level.
