THE FIRST EXTRAORDINARY SESSION OF THE PRESIDENCY OF WOMEN’S SECTION OF UBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ ANALYZED CURRENT ACTIVITIES, STRATEGY OF ACTION UNTIL 2010 AND PLAN OF JOINT ACTIVITIES WITH WOMEN’S SECTION OF THE CONFEDERATION OF AUTONOMOUS TRADE UNIONS OF SERBIA

GREATER CONCERN FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS

Belgrade, February 4 2008
The first part of the Session of Women’s Section of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’ began with the presentation of Dobrila Ilicic, President. She spoke about the work and activities of Women’s Section of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’. The major emphasis was on non-participation at the Conference of Women and Youth for South-East Europe which took place in Podgorica, in December last year.

Besides the UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’, the Autonomous Trade Union of Serbia was invited too and representatives of trade unions of the Republics of former Yugoslavia also took part. There were also problems concerning the participation at the Seminar, where the major topic was physical and sexual harassment of women at the workplace which was organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. Such things bring about a great problem for Women’s Section of UBU ‘’Nezavisnost’’.

There was an initiative that this Section should be the organizer of Women’s Trade Union School which will be organized in Torino, in 2009. This Section wishes to join the Project titled ‘’Strategy for diminishing poverty’’ and also it desires, together with Women’s Section of the Autonomous Trade Union of Serbia, to organize joint activities with the support of Swiss Non-government Organization – SLA and Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Further actions until 2010 were also considered, where the participation of larger number of women was also taken into consideration, namely, increasing the membership. The Women’s Section initiated the enacting of the Law on Mobbing and they also plan meetings on the level of regional trustee offices in 2008. In addition, the activities in the campaign ‘’You have the right’’ will be continued and it was also proposed that local socio-economic councils should be established within KOCD.

For all this, one needs greater funds, and so this Section will propose the budget for 2008 with the view of carrying out these activities.
