IN ADDITION TO ASSEMBLING ‘’ZASTAVA 10’’, ‘’ZASTAVA AUTOMOBILI’’ ALSO SELLS CARS FROM ‘’OPEL’’ PROGRAM

EUROPEAN CAR FROM ‘’ZASTAVA AUTOMOBILI’’

The first ‘’Zastava 10’’ cars have already exited the assembly lines of ‘’Zastava automobili’’. It can be expected that domestic manufacturers of equipment and car parts will be engaged in completing ‘’Zastava 10’’ in the following period, and this would be another new result necessary for the existence and development of car industry. The start of ‘’Opel Astra’’ sale means, at the same time, a chance that ‘’Opel’’ program appears on the production lines, in addition to ‘’Zastava 10’’, in a relatively short time period. In order that we adequately monitor the economic developments in ‘’Zastava automobili’’, our Union invited Mr. Klaus Priegnitz to visit the Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’ in Kragujevac, who is the coordinator of IG Metall for Southeast Europe.

Mr. Priegnitz, as an expert in the area of automotive industry, spoke to the Union Committee about the situation in Europe and in the world car market, and especially about ‘’Opel’’, i.e. Europe’s GM. ‘’Opel’’ is a company that employees would like to have as a strategic partner and potential buyer of ‘’Zastava automobili’’. A significant part of GM and ‘’Opel’’ program does not refer to German territory, but the production and plants are moved to the countries of Central and East Europe. Therefore, ‘’Zastava’’ can expect, due to some of its advantages, that it will be the subject of long-term cooperation with ‘’Opel’’ and we hope a possibility that ‘’Opel’’ takes part in the tender of ‘’Zastava automobili’’, which should be announced in December. The Union of ‘’Zastava automobili’’ received a letter from ‘’Opel’’ referring to Union participation in the project that ‘’Opel’’ wishes to develop with the unions of ‘’Zastava automobili’’. In agreement with Mr. Priegnitz, we expect that the representatives of ‘’Zastava’’ Union shall visit ‘’Opel’’ plants in Poland.
